As another data point, I just purchased and installed some 275/305 NT01's from Simple Tire and they all have 2018 production dates.

I grabbed some 275's to run square but I'm really tempted to try 305's in the rear.

I was hoping you'd say that. Have you used nt01's yet?

I have not. Primarily because I like to run staggered and 305/35/18 is a difficult fit on e92

I'm running this configuration currently with our APEX SM-10's.

18x10" ET25 - 275/35-18 NT01
18x11" ET44 - 305/35-18 NT01
* 15mm spacers in the rear for an effective offset of ET29

At full suspension droop the inner sidewall touches the rear subframe, however, under load it clears. Rear fender liners are still in place, and no modifications were necessary. I'll have more feedback once I put the car through its paces on track.

Tired 35 hot and it was an improvement over 38, when tested in back to back sessions. Slightly better grip and more progressive transition from grip to when they break loose.

I was about to pull the trigger on a set of 275/35/18 R7s or BFG R1s, but I found Hankook RS-4s for $900 at Tirerack with no tax or shipping. I know these are not in the same realm, but I run these on a Boxter racecar, and I've been wanting to try them out. I'll f/u with my feedback. I'd like to hear any feedback with RS-4s on track - thanks.

I thought that I'd provide some feedback after running the RS-4s for four days.

Pros
I have four days on these tires, and I should be able to get another two days out of them. I can't get more than four days out of NT-01s, RE71Rs or R7s. I've run Conti and Pirelli DH scrubs, but it's hard to compare those to a new tire.

Cons
The RS-4s felt good for a lap or two then started to get greasy with both understeer and oversteer. I couldn't help hooning it out of second gear corners at COTA as the rear would easily break free. I decided half way through the weekend that I would not buy them again as I'm spoiled with running tires with more grip.

Overall
Despite feeling much less grip, my lap times didn't suffer as much as I would have thought at both MSR and COTA. I was running close to PBs at both. That said, the temps were cool so that might have accounted for faster times.

Final Verdict
The other tires cost $250-$350 per day if they last four days. RS-4s cost $150 per day at 6 days. That's close to half the cost of the other options. They get greasy after 1-2 hot laps and need a cool down lap. The RS-4s might be best bang for the buck if you can stop chasing lap times and enjoy the experience.
