Leaving E90/M3 post
I wanted to say it's been a great many years of looking at pure awesomeness and learning so much from these forums but I'll be leaving the BMW community due to something horrible.
August 18th my 11 M3 competition was stolen from the side of rt 50 near the New Carrollton exit and found a week later completely stripped gutted and burnt down in a neighborhood called Kenilworth ave in Washington D.C . As cars can be replaced this has left a terrible impact and feeling of pure hatred. I could just work hard all over again and buy another one but I don't see the point anymore. So I'm going to take a long break from owning anything nice for awhile or maybe even forever . Anyway enjoy the final pictures of the best car I've ever owned! |

What an awful situation with your M3.
Good luck.

Man, really sorry to hear this. Take your break but wish on you to come back, if not into an M then something else special. Stupid people don't hold back the good ones.

That sucks ass. Beautiful car (and red like mine!). RIP
What was on the car that was stripped? I don't want to accidentally buy something on the secondary market that came off your car...

I realize that feeling must suck, but to let some lowlife thieves ruin your hobby is even worse, in my opinion... Do you what you enjoy, shit happens in life. It all goes on.

They took everything!!! Engine , transmission, interior, panels . If you see anything Melbourne red or black leather just call the state police. It was a DCT car so that should help .

Man this sucks to hear! I'd definitely be broken if that happened to my car. Honestly, it's today's society, everyone waiting for someone back to be turned to take advantage of them. From cars to debit cards to straight up taking advantage of someone's emotions. Hopefully you can find closure in a new ride to help move on front his nightmare. Good luck my man

Awful. Sorry to hear that.
I live in the area and work in DC - I always felt the road condition were robbing my car of its life, but damn. Are our cars that easy to steal? What was happening on the side of Rt 50 at the time?

I'm surprised - this is quite specialized. I believe the engine block has the VIN and therefore would be traceable in a sale. Does it not?

Look up the list of most stolen cars. M3 is nowhere near the top. Some boring Japanese or domestic car is up there, not a nice car.

In a related story, Maya tells me (she's in cyber security of some sorts) that the ability is out there to hold your cars ECU ransom while you are parked/driving etc... They can now tap on remotely to your vehicle and disable it right on the spot. Give me $500 right now or you will not be able to use your fob to start the car.

Sad to hear of your sorrows. Shame to see you go over this.
Unfortunately there is no VIN identification on any of the parts in these cars. The engine has a serial number which is entered into BMW's data system but only BMWNA is able to confirm what chassis it was linked to and they don't make that information available. So really, none of the parts can be traced to the stolen VIN. There is a company in the UK that makes equipment to capture and clone radio signals from our fobs which can be used to unlock/start them. Fortunately(?) it is expensive and not terribly easy to find, and since most thieves are lazy it's not likely to be seen employed in vast numbers. |
