First time.. Dream car

In the middle of purchasing a e90 2010 60 M3 Dct
Car has 77000 miles on the clock and has 3 owners. I'll be the 4th. Service history is spot on but there is no actual invoices of work carried out. Such as Rod bearings and what not. Just one for the dct service and filter.

Will the RB most likely have been done in the past at this mileage? Is there any other major things I need to look out for or think about. Its been such a rollercoaster. I've wanted one forever and now I'm able to get it I have 100001 doubts in my head. Thank you in advance. First time using a forum so forgive me if I've done anything incorrectly. Thank you.

In all likelihood, RB's have probably not been done on the vast majority of these cars.

That said, congrats! I came across my current E90 by chance and picked it up the very next week. RB status on my car is unknown but I was able to get a 3 year 36k mile full warranty for just 40 bucks more a month rolled into my payment plan. That was easier than setting aside 3k cash for the RB job. And plenty of cars going strong on original bearings at our mileage of 60-70k.

Thank you very much for getting back to me. I am also getting an additional warranty which I just hope is a good one and not like some of the ones that are not worth the paper they're printed on... I've been looking for one for a few months now and found one on Monday. Just need to collect it now but these forums scare me haha

I'm going to have to play the lottery too. I have a warranty so hopefully if my numbers ever come up that'll cover it!! I'm going to have to ask now.. Which oil do you use and why...how often should I service. Its a weekend car so I won't be doing more than 250 miles a month. Thank you in advance

The oil debate on this forum is a little crazy due to the rb problems, this motor uses very thick oil so with bearing clearance issues the great oil debate begins.just please do your research and look at what the people who BUILD these motors are saying about what oil to use,Take a look at the oil threads, after reading for an hour i started my own search

I did a Blackstone report on my oil but it really doesn’t mean anything people with clean Blackstone reports have had failures so i guess again its a roll of the dice,i have already put more miles than I planned before doing the rb’s its just one of those things i have to enjoy this car,its very intoxicating for a petrolhead

This is all new to me. I don't usually do the forum thing and researching myself. But I've never had such a special car. So I think im going to have to put the extra effort in. My family think it's making me crazy and it hasnt even arrived yet

I would even prefer that the rod shells wasn't previously done, leaves it to you whether you want it done and if so select who should do it (if not diy), then you know what hw and by whom.
If the car in your eyes is clean your half way home mate. Service done but no invoices, you mean stamped in the book? If the latter, is it possible to contact the shop(s) and confirm?
I'd also check what is done/how regular. Oil change by BMWs 15k miles is for instance not to my personal liking.

Good luck!

Awesome point i’ve actually been reading the rb failure list and it seems most of the aftermarket failures have been install errors

Have managed to get the service history confirmed. Oil changes have been every 7000/10000 miles in the last 3 years with the Most recent owner. He seemed too definitely look after it in terms of service more than the ones previous to him.

Do yourself a favor. Get rid of the warranty, and take that money and put it in something useful like changing out your rod bearings, change out all the fluids, and change the plugs. Then drive around worry free and enjoy the dream! Rod bearings are the only catastrophic failure that you can prevent, so do it!

I change my rod bearings with every oil change...throttle actuators I figure can go to every other oil change...
While I know some on here might think that a bit excessive think of all the $$$ I'm saving by not having to send samples to Blackstone...

You forgot about DCT fluid changes once a month.
