DCT Shift Speed

Just curious what you all set your shift speed at for day-to-day use? I've kept mine at the max or maybe one off but out of curiosity set it at the lowest setting. It's actually pretty fun to be able to hear the exhaust a little bit longer and get that burble when you start in 2nd gear. Of course for max performance, I max it out but didn't know if others use lower settings for chill mode.

I leave it at 3 for daily duties, and max settings in M mode. I like the dichotomy.

S2 is my default setting. It feels smoother in that setting in bumper to bumper traffic.

D5 and S5. I too like running the gear longer as well. Everyone in a while, I drop it to D2/D3.

Pretty much the same. Once it warms up, up it goes!

I heard its bad to keep the settings to s5/6 all day everyday because it wears the transmission faster. Is this true? Cuz if not, im gonna keep it at s5 at least

If anything, the lower settings will cause more wear because it's slipping the clutches to smooth things out.

S4/S5. S3 is too slow and any of the D's try to put me in 7th gear seemingly regardless of speed.

agreed. the only time I use D is in the morning as it approaches operating temp, to avoid accidentally over-revving it when cold. Other than that, always S5 for better DCT clutch life and better driving.

This has been my thinking as well, but does this come at the cost of driveline wear? S6 seems like it would introduce more wear in the driveshaft, guibos, axles, diff, etc

Yeah in the lower settings the car is always mid gear slipping the clutch because it’s in a high gear at low rpms

My thinking as well. Guess my constant S4/5 wear out my TA's - cause love my blips - but those have to go one day anyway.

Maybe, but it's not like there's a rash of DCT failures or these things have been grenading on people. The overall drivetrain is quite stout.

Definitely this. Bought an '11 with 47k on it and TAs went out within a week.

Another owner I know drove his hard S6, launched often and only started to get issues at 130k. Not a lot of cars that you can do that with.

The diff definitely isn't working like it used to though.

I have ran the car every day every second of driving in setting 5 and of course 6 for launch control.

You are telling me if I leave it in the bottom most setting I will get some exhaust burble?
