from what I've seen those mass vaccination sites have a lot of cones set up for traffic control

just sayin, if you're going to crime, do it in an awesome way that also advances the twin goals of getting some pre-event testing in and becoming an internet hero with an ample gofundme legal defense fund lol

LMAO, we're all brainstorming on how we can still use the lot.

Two questions:

1. Have any of you run tires of different diameters on the front and back ends of the car, and if so, have you had any issues with ABS or anything else freaking out? I'm thinking of running a 265/275 Goodyear combo, but there's a 0.7" diameter difference between the two, so I'm worried that the car will get confused.

2. Early long shot, but anyone willing to consider taking on a paying codriver for Nationals (and ideally the Pro Finale)?

I've run 275/35 front and 295/30 rear. Roughly a 0.6-0.7" difference. I've also run square 275, 295 and 255 on the car. I didn't notice any detrimental performance on the stagger setup when it came to braking or ABS intervention. This was on a road course though and not autoX, so YMMV but figured I'd chime in.

Car will be fine.
In STU trim I was running a 265/35 Front Yoko with 275/40 Rear last year and no issues and switched to a 295/35 rear this year and also no issues. Should be all good.

A sampling of some weird diameter-staggered combos I've run:

275/35 and 275/40-18
285/35 front and 275/35-18 rear
275/35 and 295/35-18 rear
255/40-18 and 275/35-18 rear

And obviously lots of different square setups

If you have a shorter rear tire on the car it will trigger DSC more quickly, but ABS seems not to care and works amazing all the time no matter what (within limits that others who have developed the ca rmore have definitely found, particularly Mayfield has discussed on here some). The stock diameter stagger is...0.6". 25.7" front, 26.3" rear, give or take a tenth here and there depedning on the tire and wear and scuh. So...yeah don't worry about it.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I was thinking of running 265s in front and 275s in back because I wasn't sure how a 275 Goodyear would feel on the front end of the car on a 9" wheel -- a 275 on a 9" is a bit of a stuff.

I thought about it some more though, and the sidewall on the 265s is taller, which would likely negate any small advantage in responsiveness that would come from getting the 265s versus the 275s.

Between that, the 275s being a hair cheaper, and 9" wheels being within the recommended range for the 275s, I just went with 275 square.

BS pony cars to FS back on the table again...
This time I think I might actually be for it. FS is really dying out there from what I've seen in the tour results this year so far.
Plus finding the "right" e9x for FS with a manual and a comp package has gotten pretty expensive these days.

FS is dying because everyone knows its changing soon. It's self-fulfilling, but hey it is what it is

Brilliant, let's bring some $45k+ pony cars in to 'fix' a class where $35k BMWs are getting too expensive.

For their age they really are.
The new cars may be 45k but they're also 5-7 years newer and don't need $2500 spent on rod bearings. I strongly considered after selling my STU car to go backwards into buying a nice 6MT Comp Package with lower miles than my pervious car that could be a fun weekend and FS car and then I could buy a dedicated track/racecar. When I thought about it dollar to dollar a BS M2/Mach 1/Camaro/Supra all made way more sense from a cost/age perspective. FS this year has been effectively dead at the events I've been following this year so I'm sure I'm not the only one that went through this thought process when I was shopping. I have tried to recommend the M3 for an FS car to others recently too and they all get sticker shock at the price of one for the age and maintenance needs and end up in one of the above BS cars.

Are 30 cars/entries going to come out of the woodwork for nationals this year in FS? I'm really doubting it.

The problem lies above, new cars are coming into AS and BS and BS is diverse but almost overcrowded. There's cars buried in AS that should be in BS and there's a bottleneck to move anything down from BS as it sits now. FS is the next logical place to move forward to.

And it's not like the M3 doesn't have anywhere left to play. STU exists, the car is competitive in the class, and I could go on the marketplace of this forum right now and put together a competitive STU setup for a non-insane amount of money.

I don't understand how anybody can make a judgment of any substance on attendance in the midst of a global pandemic that has sucked the life out of a lot of discretionary time and income for a lot of people, regardless of how lightly-touched the wealthy motorsport-participants generally have been by the pandemic, it's a factor and I wouldn't be shaking anything up in 2021 or 2022. But, the E9x is also a rad STU car so it seems like a light sentence heh

In 2019 the only Yok sizes available were 265 and 295. The 265 was kinda scrawny for the back end of our car, and the 295 was too much.

Now there's a 275 available -- has anyone given that a shot on either end of the car? If so, how did it go? Given that the Yok doesn't like being stuffed, I'm wondering if a 265/275 combo would work better than a 275/295 one.

Not in FS trim, but I ran the 265/275 combo on my STU setup before the rules allowed the bigger tires this year and liked it.
I was on an 11" square wheel combo though

The whole reason I went to an FS M3 is that there are not many competitive rwd street class cars between an ND2 and a vette. I mostly run at our nation tour site which is a runway plus taxi ways, so we are mostly doing slaloms and offsets. So my goal was to find a competitive RWD street class car, but not super wide like a vette or the pony cars, and a bit more power/tq than an ND2.
I'm not as young as I once was so not really interested in the large amount of setup work an st car needs, so been trying to stay in street class. The other option was a BS boxster S, which can also have large extra expenses due to their age. Also, not so competitive anymore in BS. Having owned the boxster, I like my FS M3 much better on course also. I've also driven the BS Camaro 1LE on course and it was super fun but just really big.
Will be disappointing when they render this car uncompetitive in street. I suppose a BS M2 could be good if you have the $.

Namer, Layton and Cashmore covered by 0.259 seconds for the top 3. Dang. Congrats to Jake Namer for the jacket!

We had some really fun courses this year. I'm left feeling a bit bummed at losing by 0.061 seconds but I'm happy that I was on pace and I know where I have to improve.

It's funny how much slower everything looks on video. It felt 10x faster in car.

Setup was 2011 M3 ZCP DCT
295/30 front, 295/35 rear A052 on Apex ARC8
OEM front shocks, Bilstein B8 damptronic rear
Hotchkis front bar on 6/7 stiffness
0 front toe, 0.2 deg rear toe in
max front camber, -1.8 deg rear camber
Ferodo DS2500 brake pads

We'll see what is in store for FS for next year and beyond, whether they will move the BS pony cars into the class. The only pony car drivers that would have beaten FS were Leeder and Daddio, and neither are slow drivers, so I don't think the M3 will totally be out of contention but I'll probably be looking for a codrive in something else next year.

Nice job with the 2nd place finish, Tommy!
Did you have any issues with rubbing with 295/30's up front?

Fun finally meeting you and great driving, even if the result was razor thin.
Congrats still on the podium finish and looking forward to seeing how things shake out next year
