General E92 value question

I might have the opportunity to purchase a one owner 08 M3 (E92) MT in black with ~16K miles.

Just wondering where the best place is to find an "accurate" value of the car. I know the used car market is insane right now but I dont know that applies to niche cars like this one.

I have seen the car in person but not up close and personal. I am confident it is in excellent condition and through text, the seller has told me the car is "pretty loaded."

Any idea where the market is for these cars? I think the key factors for this car are the low miles, one owner and condition. He has suggested his perfect world price would be $50K. I did some research on BAT and back in Dec 20, there is was an E92 that sold for ~$36 w/ 13K miles.

KBB is suggesting an excellent M3 with standard equipment would be mid to high thirties.

I am not passionate about this car. I dont NEED to have it. However, I sure would like to have it. $50K would be 100% no go for me financially but I might be able to swing the thirties. Just wondering what the consensus is as I want to as informed and realistic as possible throughout the process. Thanks!

EDIT: This is a local car. I know relatives of the owner and I believe it to be bone stock.

I wouldn't pay 50K for a 2008. But that is me - paid 17K for a 2010 with 81k miles 2 years ago.

Make an offer of what you think is fair and the seller can decide if he will take it. I think $35k tops and $50k is too much IMO.

A quick and easy sale to someone you know is an attractive deal to a seller btw. Having to deal with tire kickers and test drives is a hassle so you have some leverage too.

The car is worth what someone is willing to pay. Everyone has a different number. Inflation is crazy high now. $35K, I wouldn't sell it if I was the owner. It will only go up in value over time, but you should make an offer you are comfortable with. Good luck.

Not a good deal, I would look at a 2012 or 2013, which would be around $40-50k depending on mileage.

The problem for me would be the fact it is an '08. So many features not available or badly dated (i-drive, etc) compared to later years. Super low mileage is nice, 6-speed is great, 1 owner is good, but other than that, not so much. Unless the car speaks to you I would pass and get a newer model. And $50k is a joke, no way he gets that. Maybe if it was a 2011+ Comp, 6-speed, but a 2008, no way. As others have said, $35 is likely about right.

Yeah I think that would be a fair offer, selling these cars and dealing with all the tire kickers and guys who'll offer you 10k under asking without seeing the car...

I've seen some really good cars priced under market, when you see them you assume there's something wrong and play detective But there's nothing wrong with the car, it's just that the seller doesn't want to be wasting time for inspections, phone calls etc, sometimes not worth the 3-4k that you would get extra for the 1-2 weeks of wanking about with buyers.

Anyways...

Thanks for all the feedback! I have not heard from the guy in a few days so I am not going to sweat it. Somewhere between $25 and $35 seems to be the consensus. There are other cars for $50K I would be much more passionate about.

Appreciate the help!

$25k is stupid. I wouldn't give that any credence. E92s with miles in the six figures have been going for $25k recently. 35-40 is reasonable...If you want to pull one over on the guy selling it, maybe 30-35. A CIC Nav update & LCI taillights are both retrofits that have been done hundreds of times before. 50 is, however, unreasonable all things considered.

If you have the VIN you could always plug it into Carvana and Vroom to get an idea of current wholesale. No way it's worth $50k, but no way it's worth $25k either. $35k.....yeah.
