I was just there a week or so ago.... AWESOME city.

Loved pretty much everything about it other than the weather. It was exactly as I expected from all the stereotypes I have heard over the years.

Very cool place though with a lot going on... hope to visit again!

Why not post a link to the article instead of just some sensational headline?

We banned plastic grocery bags and styrofoam to-go containers a few years back. Somehow we have survived. This is likely to impact my life in no way.

If you guys want to start a "Typical Liberal City Seattle Does X" thread, there's sooooo much more ammunition out there on the Internet, courtesy of the Seattle City Council, than plastic straws.

- Mobile "safe zones" for people to shoot up.
- $12M per mile bike lanes.
- Excessive noise tickets when an office can hear your car or bike from 75 feet away.
- Man's dilapidated pick-up truck declared his "home", preventing him from being towed no matter where he's illegally parked.
- Employee head tax paid by companies making over $20M with no plan on how to spend the revenue other than "to fight homelessness". This one finally got repealed.
- Construction sites sitting idle because trespassing homeless encampment sets up camp and no one will remove them.

I'm pretty damn Liberal but this city is F'd.

Luckily paper straws are a thing. Your teeth are gonna be OK. Places like Teds Montana grill have been using them for 10 years.

Honest question...

Do we think they will replace the straws with a paper / more biodegradable version?

For me, this would not have a big impact but I know some people (females specifically) rely heavily on straws.

If we look at Starbucks specifically.... how will one drink one of their cold beverages without one? Dont say remove the lid and sip from the cup because, is that really an option with a Venti sized beverage as you walk or drive down the street? In my mind, thats not going to happen. There has to be a common ground for proper, one handed beverage sipping.

Yeah, last week blew. "Junuary" as we call it. You missed it by a week. Been sunny and in the mid 80s all week. Nothing but sun in the forecast.

Did you at least get some god coffee while you were here? AKA, no Starbucks?

Damn... I saw glimpses of what you describe throughout the few days I was there. I was amazed at how similar the water front (looking out into Peuget Sound) resembled parts of SF Bay. Absolutely beautiful.

Gotta be honest... pulled a total tourist move and drank nothing but Starbucks coffee when I was there. Pretty sure I blew about $60 at various locations over the course of 4 days I was there. That included a $5 grande cup of coffee from the roastery. Fancy place but for a simple coffee with a splash of cream guy like me, a hair excessive!

Nooooooooooooo!

OK, the Reserve store is pretty cool and worth a visit. You should see the one they just opened at the corporate HQ about a mile away. Impressive what you can build when you charge that much for coffee!

You were literally 5 blocks away from the best coffee in Seattle.

Yeah, Seattle and SF are very similar in many ways. Same beauty, same insane housing prices, same tech talent, same problems.

Paper straws have been around for a long time and isn't it a straws job to suck?

No, the straw is merely the vehicle. The human sucks.
