Not after, before. Now my brakes are great. I'll edit the post to make it more clear.

I'm exaggerating to make a point, but over-cooling your brakes or picking a pad compound with an MOT that's too high is not something I made up.

But yes, continue to waste money on brake upgrades that are not needed - it's your money and you can spend it as you like.

On the topic of mushy pedal, also check the ABS/DSC pump module. I spent thousands on fluid, new brake booster, new master cylinder, etc only to find out after 2 years that my ABS pump was leaking. There was zero fluid loss but it was slowly weeping fluid, but also losing pedal pressure and allowing air to get in which caused mushy pedal feel.

I found easy pad changes and long life of rotors and pads on a good racing bbk worth it easily.

I didn't know you had been running 110+ degree days for 20 years and 2 dozen track days.

Now I totally look back on my overheating stock brakes with shame and an overwhelming feeling of your superiority and my years of wasted money.

At 5:22 - 5:50, Chris Harris clearly displays his inferiority as someone who loses his E92 brakes. He should join me in shame of inexperience.

You don't experience any fade at Laguna Seca?

I'm pretty sure your issue is either brake fluid or pad material related. The stock brakes have no issues.

Thanks for the sarcasm, but 20 years of tracking is not with the M3. The M3 hasn't even been out that long. I've 2 dozen on the M3 since I got it. Prior to that, I've driven many more track days in other cars. Some had BBK upgrades, others ran stock brakes on track. It really depends on the car. The M3 didn't need a BBK to run any of the tracks I've been to.

But if spending money makes you happy, go for it!

Braking into Turn 2 is hard on the brakes. The pedal gets a bit mushy towards the end of a session. Pads are fine and hold up for 4-5 Laguna track days. I run Endless brake fluid and Project Mu Club Racer pads.

My expenses are usually brake fluid flush every few track days and a set of front pads every year. That's about $400 in brake consumables a year.

Front rotors I'll replace every 2-3 years. With FCP lifetime warranty, it costs me about $200 for OEM rotors including shipping costs.

Rear brakes, I've only had to change the pads once. Been running the same stock rear rotors for 6+ years now.

Driver technique has a lot to do with how brakes perform and their durability. I think this is somewhat apples to oranges.

Some drivers can make the stock brakes work on track, others will burn them up in one session.

I'm on the Burn-them-up end. A set of Ferrodo 2500 and a new set of rotors both lasted 2 track days with new SRF fluid and stainless lines.

PIR here has 2 long straights (130mph, 150mph) in a 1:25 lap and there are multiple 40-60mph turns in between.

I tend to get after lap times (yes, I know a HPDE is not the place for that) and walk on ABS up to my trail braking when I can.

There are many others who I drive with that run 5 seconds slower but never overheat anything nor go through brakes. They brake 100-200 ft earlier in the big two straights... I understand they are having fun, but it's not something I'd enjoy as much working on tenths.

I bought the M3 exclusively for AutoX (STU) competition and track days. We sold a GT3 and picked up a 991TTS that we don't track because the GT3 was too much $ liability for chasing tenths. I too have done more than X track days, but I don't think that matters. We're "in line" at the local dealership for a GT3RS. Unfortunately that line is long enough that it will arrive approximately when the M3 is worn out. We'll be prepared for the $$$ liability then as well. It will be, like the TTS, fine with stock brakes.

Not all retrofit BBKs are bad. I've had Brembo 4Ps with E46 M3 front rotors (325) from 850CSi on my E36 M3 and it worked well for a NA 321hp(max torq 350nm). Just placed an order for Brembo 4P because the price and pad availability (evo 5-9) made it irresistible.

That being said, I expect a slight change in brake bias due to difference in piston surface area. I am also presuming it will need some adjustments to make it track-adequate.

Will check with temp stickers how these perform vs. stock system running identical pads.
