Windshield replacement recommendation
Need to replace my cracked windshield. Looking for recommendations for windshield installers ideally closer to Renton than eastside? Has anybody used Pilkington glass and are you happy with the quality?

Had a Pilkington on a different car and it was very wavy. No more Pilkington for me.
Friend had a windshield replaced last week with FYG glass (Chinese brand), says it's very high quality. |

FYG = Fuyao glass
Seems to be a popular replacement nowadays for decent glass at a good price. FY also manufactures glass for PGW (aka PPG) and other major brands. Fuyao is the original equipment manufacturer to General Motors and Bentley. My friend got one for his R32 GT-R and says its the best alternative to OEM Nissan which is no longer manufactured and impossible to get in the USA. Kinda a mixed bag these days, you never know what you're getting as manufacturers go to the lowest cost suppliers and slap their label on it.

this is exact opposite of what i experience in the industry. i wouldnt put any of those Chinese glass in my car. I have seen clamping marks in the glass, wavy glass, heavy distortion, you name it. Pilkington is OE glass for many manufacturers, you must have gotten a bad batch, or you are invested in FYG.

Just had mine replaced last week at a Safelite location in Seattle. Went with oem and haven't noticed any issues. Installer was very helpful, seemed like he knew what he was doing, and gave a sh!t about his work as well lol. I believe they also back their work/glass defects for the lifetime of the vehicle. (Don't quote me)

Safelite did mine and they only had OEM non-solar and solar. I chose solar hoping I would get the blue/purple tint on the windshield that you see on some Mercedes and Teslas - apparently they were standard on European M3s...and it looks great!

Euroglass in Redmond
If you don't mind driving to Redmond, I would highly recommend Euroglass. They do a lot of the high-end vehicles on the eastside.
Euroglass Address: 14515 NE 91st St Ste 3, Redmond, WA 98052 Phone: (425) 883-2989 They replaced the last windshield I needed a few years ago, and did a top-notch job. I wouldn't expect them to be the cheapest, so it depends on your priorities. BTW - When I took my E46 there a few years ago, for its second windshield replacement, they showed me how the previous low-end glass company had scratched all the paint off behind the windshield. They repainted all the bare metal before installing the new windshield. |
