If you are paying the Assist Convenience Plan then you are getting BMW (Google) Search.

The other Google features are only available with BMW Live -which as stated before it is not available in the US.

BMW Apps is a separate feature, not related or dependent of BMW Search or BMW Live.

Yelp was added to BMW Search the last week of December -as well as the new GUI. You should have received the update already.

Does the cable option still allow the shark fin antennae to boost the signal, or is that only applicable to the snap in?

BTW Technic. Nice interior.

Thanks...

Only cradle/OEM baseplate has the antenna booster; this retrofit does not include the baseplate. I was not interested as then I will have to buy the cradle as well.

Great writeup.

Are these upgrades (specifically BMW Apps and the iPod Out) available on pre September 2010 production vehicles? My car is a June 2010 build and I thought it wasn't compatible with these updates...

Thanks.

BMW Apps requires the Combox module. The Combox started being factory-installed from Sept 2010-on in the USA.

Either the dealer or BimmerTech.

Then BMW decided to make BMW Apps activated by BMW-only supplied enabling codes just after my car delivery.

No longer BimmerTech was able to code BMW Apps. Or so it seems.

Today BimmerTech has done it again: the first FSC-enabled BMW Apps retrofit.

Remote coding:

BMW Apps:

Web Radio:

Pandora:

Facebook:

iPod Out and Video:

BMW Live:

Google Search:

Panoramio:

Internet:

Sirius Radio:

Notes:

- this coding was performed remotely using the regular/eBay OBDII coding cable by BimmerTech. No special cable or OPS head required.
- BMW Live is not currently available in the USA, it is an Euro feature. However, it can be used and it is fully functional in the USA if it is setup for England (UK) as its country -go figure.
- BMW Live and BMW Internet requires a Bluetooth-tethering-capable (Hotspot) smartphone to connect to the Internet.
- BMW Assist remains functional with BMW Live via the roof console button; the iDrive display Assist functions are no longer functional. Therefore MyInfo (Google Send-To-Car) will no longer be functional if BMW Live is enabled as the "Messages" function will disappear once BMW Live is coded.
- Sirius FSC includes one year of service
- integrated iPod Out eliminates the need of a baseplate and iPhone cradles. So when the iPhone 5 shows up it will not require a replacement cradle ($200) and throwing away the iPhone 4 cradle.

With this coding package (30 minutes or so of labor) the iDrive becomes a much better and comprehensive in-car entertainment and Navigation system. Just BMW Apps (Web Radio and Pandora) makes Sirius radio virtually obsolete, both in selection of stations and absolutely in sound quality (up to 128kps AAC encoding in Web Radio vs 48kps in some Sirius stations).

Please contact BimmerTech for the exact details for your car if interested in a package like this.
I got about half of this to work. I cannot seem to find the Google part

This is not a dealer-installed retrofit obviously. So if you in fact work for BMW and cannot find the just announced 6NR OEM retrofit then this is not the thread that you should be looking for answers.

I see. lol

I have searched everywhere for the enabling codes bulletin. I found the retrofit but that includes a cable to be installed to the baseplate. It is called the "BMW Apps Retrofit Cable"

It also states the 6NR FSC codes. I will locate the procedure tomorrow.

Technic,

Why are you using a black USB cable? Why are you not using the normal white apple usb cable? Is that black cable plugged into the USB port next to the snap in adapter?

If not, why isnt the USB port next to the snap in adapter being used?

This black USB cable is not the "old" OEM iPod/AUX cable.

This is a regular USB cable (like the white Apple cable) with a 2.5mm video output jack. The OEM USB/AUX port socket was replaced by an OEM USB/Video port socket.

Interesting!

Was that part of the retrofit? Or did you just add the video in port to have it?

And if you can play video thru the stock USB port in the cubby, then why change it to begin with?

Sorry for the questions. im just curious to understand why you did that.

Thanks!
