Unhappy Help - Key Fob starts engine but cant lock / unlock doors

Hi There,

I'm having problems with my key fobs,

I've changed the batteries on all of my fobs but I cannot lock/unlock my car or use the comfort entry on any of my keys, the only way to start my car is to put the key in the slot.

I've noticed that the range slowly dropped over a few days and I thought it was a dying battery but changing them showed no improvement?

Is there any way to fix this before I resort to sending my car into a shop?

Thanks,
-Z

11 months old, Changed it in November last year, no problems since then until now, no rough starts or low battery warnings.

that is odd, i'm out of ideas. usually the comfort access starts losing effectiveness with a dying battery.

I had a weird keyfob issue a couple of years ago.. any time I'd open the door with the ignition or engine on, the car would report that the key was missing (even though it was right there in the car).. I had wired my dashcam to tap into the rear view mirror power - on an E93, the keyfob antenna is in the rear view mirror. Apparently the power draw from the dashcam was just enough to weaken the antenna signal. Wired the dashcam to a different 12v switched source and the problem went away.

So if you have any aftermarket devices (radar detector, dash cam, etc), try removing them to see if that resolves the issue.

Well I know this is going to be annoying but...

It fixed itself somehow.

I took it for a carwash and 3 days later it started working again.

Probably water leaking in somewhere causing a short or a loose wire.

Maybe if it happens again I'll see if I cant get my coverage to fix it with an explanation on why it failed.
