You can code this out. I've done it on my own car. Go the bmw coding forum and do a search. I would link it, but links to that forum are automatically deleted here.

To code it you'll need to have a good DCAN cable and a laptop with NCSexpert up and running.

1) Unplug EDC module
2) Remove $233 from VO
3) in KOMBI, set EDCK_ALIVE_ZAEHLER and EDCK_ID_MONITOR to "nicht_aktiv"
4) in CAPPL, set EDC to "nicht_aktiv" (later CIC cars set EDC_CIC to "night_aktiv")

There are two ways to do it, coding is usually the cheaper route and 'proper' way to do it.

An EDC module 'tricks' the EDC into thinking it's there, whereas coding tell's the car it no longer has that option.

Since I invested alot of time to setup a laptop with NCS Expert and learn how to do coding, my only cost was time and price for the cable I bought.

I've also done many other things and can also revert back when need to without needing to pay again. But it's not for everyone as it's not user friendly and you can screw your car up, so beware.

Aha. Always thought it wasn't possible. Thanks for the correction.

Super old post!

## Code out edc
1) Disconnect EDC module. It's located on the passenger side rear quarter panel, accessible through the trunk. It's the module with 2 connectors (white and blue). Can't miss it.
2) Remove option $223 from Vehicle Order in CAS using FA_write; then change ECU and FA_write the NFRM.
3) In KOMBI set EDCK_ALIVE_ZAEHLER to nicht_aktiv and EDCK_ID_MONITOR to nicht_aktiv.
4) If you have the first gen idrive (08) in CAPPL set EDC to nicht_aktiv. / if you have the later idrive in CIC set EDC_CIC to nicht_aktiv
