I think you can somehat generalize on that one. If you live with your parents, or are funded by them, then that can be added on to your "true income." (I'm not saying whether that practice is right or wrong.) If you are a consultant that is on the road 90% of the time, and your company eats all of your expenses, then your disposable income goes up considerably so your "true income" would as well. If you're working two jobs to pay for an M3, I admire your work ethic tremendously (sincerely), but you're not being fiscally responsible. I know lots of financially irresponsible people, which isn't to say they're bad people, just bad with money.
Sorry if I sound harsh, but that's a sore spot with me at this moment. A tremendous amount of our country has been living beyond their means for years, and now that's coming out of my pocket. These mortgage cramdowns and "tax rebates" are coming out of my pocket as a taxpayer, and I receive nothing. Apparently I should have bought a much more expensive home than I did, and done so with an Option/Adjustable Rate Mortgage rather than a 30-year fixed, so I could have my principal "adjusted to a level that I could afford." Even if you're someone who is getting "mortgage assistance," the cost of your BMW goes up when people default on their loans and BMW has to repo the car. End of rant. |

Well Seth's reply was to my own reply but I didn't take anything personal by it. I would definitely agree one has to be financially repsonsible in this day and age (any day and age really). I have my own townhome, 9 to 5 job, 2 side businesses, can put more than half down on an M3 but still will buy an M3 (when I can afford one). Why? Because the market's not stable and I don't really NEED an M3. Yet.
I will get one when the time is 'right' for me. Yes it is based on one's personal situation as well. Maybe, when I have maybe ~3k per month extra to spend however I see fit then I'll get one. But it is always nice to dream and hard work for something.

Sadly, used M3s dont get certified which means they dont get the incentives that CPO cars do.

Oh i was wrong when i made that comment. I later found out that some dealers actually do CPO used M3. Not sure if they get the special financing though.
