PDC as dealer fit option
Should be a quick one - did a search and couldn't find an answer...
Is PDC available as a dealer-fit option? My E92 M3 didn't come with it, and I miss it...my e46 had it and was well worth it. thanks! |

My sales agent told me that PDC cannot be installed onto the car. Therefore, if you want it, it should've came on the car when you purchased. But then again, my sales agent didn't seem to know much about the car, so perhaps he is wrong. Why don't you just call the service department to your dealership and ask?

I asked the same question and was told that BMW makes a bolt on version that sits around the license plate in the rear (?) Whatever the case, it didn't sound pretty, certainly not retrofitted bumpers with sensors.
Anything is possible, just would probably cost a fortune... |

You would need to buy the sensors and whatever harness is needed for them behind the car and try to check if there is a bumper cover with the holes from factory.
Than you would need to wire it up and worst of all you need a new paint job for all the parts, too much work really I'm saying it is possible to retrofit parking sensors, just is a little bit much

Even if you did all of the above, actually the worst part will be coding the car for PDC. Since PDC is not offered as a retrofit then there is no coding for PDC.
BMW locks features to VIN#s. Features require coding and authorization codes. What this all means is you cannot code your car for PDC unless BMW offer a retrofit. |

Thanks guys - doesn't come as a huge suprise.
I don't reverse park here anywhere near as much as I did in the UK...so I don't think it will be a big deal! thanks again |

BMW offers this for E46 models as an actual dealer accessory (and I'm not talking about the license-plate version), which makes me think the dealer does have the ability to recode your vehicle to add this feature. So maybe you could buy the parts for an E9x model, install them, and get a dealer to recode your car? The key is that you would probably have to find a knowledgeable dealer willing to break some rules.
To view this go to bmwusa.com, then Accessories (in the top menu), Vehicle Accessories, then choose a 2005 3-series model, then Electronics, then Convenience. Then you will see both options (license plate and "bumper" PDC). They used to have a better photo that showed the actual rear of the car with it installed. Here is a link but not sure if it will work (i.e dynamic to my web session): http://accessories.bmwusa.com/ItemVi...&productId=371
