Where do you guys track your cars?

Me and my friend had been to 1 track event with PDA at Pocono raceway, and we are going to Limrock, CT on March 27th. It's too slow for us to advance from HPDE1 to HPDE3/4 ( so that we can race without an instructor in the car).

I just want to ask what is your experience on track in NE region.

and am I on the right track to advance from one level to the next?

This is the only road course I know of in NJ http://www.njmp.com/index.php however it is member only facility. From time to time organizations like the CCA will rent the track for the day, weekend etc. Myself and some other forum members are attending an event at Monticello Motor Club on 4/24/10 details can be found here trackacardia.com if you guys are interested or shoot me a pm.

There are a lot of opportunities to drive on tracks in the Northeast. There's a group going to Monticello NY in a few weeks - there's a thread on this forum about it.

NJBMWCCA also runs NJMP and Summit Point with driving schools. They're doing a day at Monticello, as well. Yes, it's structured, but it doesn't take long to move up if you're competent. The bright side of having the structure is that it probably reduces the chance that someone else will do something bad and collect you. If you're worried about traffic, Summit Point tends to have lighter attendance, and it's a great track. It's a bit of a hike (4 hours from Central Jersey), but prices are cheap down there. You get a great hotel room for $ 65 a night. Other BMW club chapters run Watkins Glen and Pocono.

I know there are several organizations that run at NJMP. You can also go to NJMP.com and see the schedule. There used to be hyperlinks to the organizations on the calender. Some of them are open to all.

thanks for the info.

My friend and I have limited info on track events and schools, we are not sure if PDA is the best racing organization to begin with. That's why I'm looking for advices from people who have track experience on this forum.

A couple of other things I should mention about the NJBMWCCA events. All students need to start each school with an instructor. Advanced students with lots of experience get checked out to solo quickly, although many of them like instructors to ride along. All students must attend their classes. This is High Performance Driver Education, and they take it seriously. Their overwhelming concerns are to provide a safe environment and develop driver skill. They don't allow passengers. Also, they make it clear that they hold driver's ed sessions and they have nothing to do with racing. They have a separate club racing program, but that's a whole different deal.

This being said, they had six or seven e9x M3s at one of their schools last year, and they were going plenty fast.

+1 Hey, I think one of those e9x M3s was mine! Kidding aside, I'd like to add that the NJBMWCCA has dedicated members with many years of track experiences who organize these HPDE track events and let me tell you that they do a great job. Each driver is assigned an instructor. The instructor will be your passenger and their goal is to teach you to become a better and faster driver. At the end of the day, you'll want to sign up for the next event. We welcome drivers with all levels to join us.

Please PM me if you'd like more info on NJBMWCCA

Yes. The NJ BMW CCA chapter will allow other marques as long as you're a CCA member. There are some restrictions such as no rear window dark tints, no convertibles, no SUVs/SAVs,..etc for the HPDE.

Go check out the Track/Autocross/... section.

Also, check out the njbmwcca website (.org) where you will find the document attached.

See you at the track!

Limerock is my favorite as it really makes the driver work to get a good lap in. But NJMP has a fantastic front straightaway but the first turn is often tricky

Don't forget the best of them all (IMHO) Watkins Glen.

Track events

Hey Guys

Also check out Hooked on Driving. I've been to several track events with them @ Lime Rock, NJMP, Pocono etc. They are a first class operation!
Super professional and a variety of cars which makes it extra interesting.

I'll be at Pocono this Monday the 9th with them.
