Australia Takata airbag recall
Reading US Takata recall and would like to know if we got a recall happening in Australia or not for the BMW M3s.
Looked at Aus recall site but nothing from BMW in 2016. There are other manufacturers recall for Takata airbag in 2015. Has anyone made a query to the dealer yet?

Contacted BMW and was told only some cars on list. I would contact them and chase them up and not wait for them to contact you given the type of issue.
contact info at bmw dot com dot au perhaps report here? |

Thanks Dave, I did look at that site but did not find an airbag recall. However looking through it again now , I can see a recall made in 2013. But looks like it is only for E46 model. Unless I missed it, not seeing any recall for E92.
https://www.recalls.gov.au/content/i...itemId/1047625 I will give BMW a call and find out exactly. |

Hey guys... I just left my BMW dealer this morning and he assures me it only affects E46s. Apparently it's the passenger air bag module that needs replacing but it won't randomly go off in BMWs (unlike other makes) as the airbag control system overrides the trigger signal. So... everyone with an E9x, crisis averted!

Ingenio, this is not what bmw told me. i.e. There are e92's affected.
My take is they are still kinda clueless, hence keep checking with them. Its pretty diabolical considering the usa and rest of the world appears to be affected. Given these cars come from the same darn factory, I would be amazed if ours were not eventually replaced under this. |

The owners in the state are getting call back letters now but with no timing indicated on when they will get the replacement carried out by the dealer. I also need to update the owner records with BM since I have not done it after purchasing the car. I tried checking my VIN on the US site but the site do not recognise the VIN. And quiet possibly the site maybe only for cars sold in the US. |

Ok... I just got off the phone with BMW Australia and after providing the last 7 digits of my VIN they confirmed I'm all clear for this (and any other) 'campaigns' (aka recalls). The guy I spoke to had no knowledge about which models it applied to... but they are more than happy to do a car-specific check so if you want that piece of mind just call 133 BMW!

I emailed BMW Australia and got the following response
"I can confirm that your M3 vehicle with chassis E198159 was not affected by the airbag recall. E90 generation models were not affected by the airbag recall campaign. Should you have any further enquires please feel free to contact us on 133 BMW (133 269) between the hours of 8:30am and 5:30pm AEST, Monday to Friday, or via email at info@bmw.com.au Kind regards," |

We all had this car for years and nobody worried about it or died from any accidents. For sometime it was the bloody bearing curse, and now airbag recall ... what's next ... orange peal on your paint job?
Just drive bl00dy car and put some smile on your face.

Takata airbag recall has now been increased by upto another 40million by US regulators. This doubles previous numbers.
BMW USA have started providing rentals until the fix. Frankly, dunno how/why all our cars are not affected given they come from the same factory (presume same airbags) built around the same time as other global cars (like the uk/usa). BMW also appear to grade these in the USA based on humidity of presumed location etc. BMW AUS appear to be quite...for now. To the nay sayers, not keen on becoming a statistic for what could be a trivial fender bender causing airbag to go off. See recent death in usa of teen killed by piece of one of these airbags. I personally would like to see some transparency from BMW/Audi/RangeRover etc which is not forthcoming. For example how many of their cars are affected, how many have been changed, of those changed (their condition/defective nature etc), how many have actually been fixed, how make more need to be fixed, time scales, etc. |

I agree with you. They should at least be on the front foot and deal with people proactively... I had to chase them for find out my vehicle wasn't affected. Would be nice to know why ours are different from all the US ones at the very least...
