Damn, that's disappointing. I've been thinking of buying one of those Rokis. But no sense having a lens with a seriously low keeper rate.

Nice SP, though, rodi.

it may have been the high altitude. i'll keep it through the 30-day period and test it on real things - like models.

I wonder when Canon will have another 15% coupon for refurb lenses... it's holiday shopping season already!

Quick novice question for you guys:

How do you calculate your "crop" factor on your shots? I mean literally (not the Crop body, as in 1.6, 1.3. I already know what that is). I mean by 100% crop, 98% crop, etc, etc....I have heard a couple different explanations and want a definitive answer....

zoom in on post processing program to 1:1 ratio, or original size, or 100% depending on program, then crop that area, turn that crop into a jpeg and post it, and you will have posted a 100% crop.

body only price is 1999

so wouldn't do much to sell the lens, besides, it's a decent lens.

Ok then explain a 98% crop? Or better yet a 50% crop?

Same thing. Set the zoom setting on your software to 50% and crop from there. That's a 50% crop. Don't know why you'd crop at 98% except to remove something along the fringe of the image.

when someone can't quite fit what they want in the crop, so they zoom out a tiny bit, or make a custom zoom number.

you know how in photoshop you get the little number down in the bottom left corner that has a % sign, click on it, then type 50% and you'll see what the picture looks like at 50% type in 98% and you'll see your 98% crop. So when you actually crop the image where you choose, it's still not at 100% full original file size. and you're getting a 50 or 98% crop.

that strikes me as one of those scam sites. probably a grey market camera. if B+H has it for $2379, i wouldn't trust a retailer selling it for less than $2200.

Definitely a scam site. Probably no warranty and Chinese software in it.

Reseller Ratings has become a farce. They won't let you post a bad rating unless you post your invoice number from the merchant and then the merchant can contact you and give you grief. They tend to remove a lot of bad reviews if the merchant claims that you wouldn't try to resolve the issue with them.

everything i buy new comes from B+H...or Adorama if i really need something and it's one of the 45 holidays b+h closes for every year. customer service has always been excellent with both, and i can trust any expensive item I buy from them.
