Neither of these has anything to do with the dash. The first product replaces the GWS (DCT shifter) and the second one just buffers the CAN so a wiring issue or data logging equipment can't take down the whole car. That said:

This is also something I intend to fix. The KOMBI has a couple critical outputs that various things need but they can be easily recreated. I want to make a dash module that will sit on the K-CAN and make the car think a stock cluster is there.
This is key.

Also put me on the list!

Alright I'm getting myself confused who's talking about which product so I'm going to start a new thread for the initial group buy of the CAN buffer and try to only talk about the "EGWS" here.

Update, I got a button panel back from AIM, finished up the firmware and get it installed in the car this weekend. Couple minor kinks to work out but everything works, although it does look like a modified DCT software will be required to make the park button work.

I took a million pictures to make a good install guide but here's the general concept:

Working on the last couple minor kinks and it'll be ready to go. Still need to get the config and stuff done for the 15 button version and find someone with an EDC car to test that out.

I've also decided I'm not hugely fond of AIM's PDM solution for just simply breaking out a couple extra buttons (It's awesome for a much more comprehensive application) so I'm going to make a SSPDM "Super Simple PDM." For those of yous who don't want or need the DSC/PWR/DL buttons on the 8 button panel, and to break out the extra few buttons on the 15 panel.

Does anyone have an iDrive car with EDC they can log CAN data on? I need to find where the EDC settings are in 0x3CA. I know what they are, just can't find any info where in the packet they are... my old donor M3 didn't have EDC so my data logs are of no help.

i have an iDrive car, an AiM Solo 2 DL hardwired into the CAN bus, and EDC that's been poorly coded out. Does that help?

Hm, maybe. Can you still get to the EDC M Drive menu options?

I'm fairly sure I can make an AIM config for your DL that will just data log raw CAN packets.

Nice dice on Kolosy's car. Anyone else? I have an AIM config so a Solo DL can log raw CAN packets I can send.

EDIT: All set with this

Forgive my ignorance because this stuff is way out of my league. Will this “plug and play” with a 135i dct? Ive never liked the factory shifter design and id love to replace it with this.

No, the 135 GWS is quite a lot different. It would have to be a whole new unit.

8 button and 15 button versions now available to pre order at www.flightmotorsports.com

The 15 button version also now includes the ability to configure all M-Drive settings without the need for iDrive!

Just doing the final beta testing now, making sure everything works smoothly with some of the other goodies coming soon. Then I'll order production boards and cases and away we go, should be Feb for delivery.

Does the P button allow you to put the car in park with the engine running?

Yup! You need to flash a custom GTS based DCT software but it works mint and doesn’t touch the calibration data so you can still mod your diff ratio and whatever else.

Sneak peak of the SSPDM:

This basically just a CAN controlled relay box that will work with the 15 button EGWS out of the box. Four of these can be configured with switches to work on a single CAN bus.

They can be paired directly with an AIM button panel or any other type of device that can output configurable CAN packets as well, without and EGWS.

Very cool! Similar concept to MicroPDM. Using relays for larger 20/30A outputs and a bunch of 2.5A outputs.

Love that your solution is integrated into the existing harness and CAN. Those with DCT cars this should be a no brainer.

To me, this entire thread raises more questions than provides answers, especially all of the acronyms. I wish one of you large brains would explain in simple English why I need this thing. So far the only thing that makes sense is I can put the car in park with the engine running which would be nice since I no longer have an e brake. Not sure that’s worth $2k though…

Merits of PDM > relays/fusses are well documented, HPA has an excellent video walking through all the basics. The challenge is they’re expensive.

My impression, you’re getting with this kit is access to programmable CAN outputs via that button pad without going the PDM route, and it’s plug and play into the BMW wiring. So if you wanted to power a cool suit, a radio, headlights, DSC, etc. It can be done either with less wiring (non oem applications) or no wiring (if it’s already bmw).

Is it essential? Nope. Is it cool? I think so. If you’re ring a bunch of ancillary powered / controlled items it would reduce wiring complexity and weight via this solution.

You could also accomplish via a standalone PDM or the aforementioned Micro I shared.

Someone more technical please pipe in
