yes and no
the thing is, some want comfortable 4 seats a porsche cannot provide this Also, if he gets a Porsche...he will (like most of us) want to start modding it too... Next, one can always resell mods (although at a loss) in the future, so it's not 20k cost as much as say 10k cost just saying :P

If you're more interested in driving in the streets, then my vote is on the supercharger, exhaust system, and wider wheels and tires. Although... all that stuff is nice to have on the track as well. |

a StopTech kit will run you around 5k, but if you want AP racing or Brembo 380MM you're looking at WAY more than 5k and a good race wing for 2k? possibly... and a light catless exhaust would be an akra, which is 5600 you can do catless for about 4k or so elsewhere (Gintani?), but it's not light like the akra Sorry Merked M3 but your pricing is off But...I do agree with you i would rather spend $ on those mods than 20k on a s/c.

very simple:
- brakes - camber - tires then spend the other 10-12000 on track days and be faster than SC M3s... |

few hundred more because i had asked the question years ago. problem is that there is a month(S) wait time and basically no difference in cooling/stopping.
if this is for track, don't even think about it. if it's for looks...well...this is a pretty useless mod |

If you have 20k for ONLY performance mods(i.e. no carbon fiber cosmetic parts), I would do the following
In this order: 1. KWV3 2. AA x-pipe and exhaust 3. AA tune 4. Gruppe M carbon intake 5. BMW performance race seats 6. Stoptech BBK then put the bmw performance gills, grills, carbon decklid and CALL IT A DAY

I wouldn't even SC this car, you'd mess it up IMHO. I'd keep it the way it was made, but make it better & lighter.
Not sure how far $20k goes with a M3... 1) intake (1k?) 2) full exhaust (5k) 3) Li ion battery (1k) 4) light 18" wheels w/tires (5k?) 5) carbon hood, trunk, roof (sedan) (5k?) 6) recaro front seats (3k?) 7) suspension (3k?) IIRC you gain like 40whp and drop about 250lbs. I just looked up the weight of the E90...3700lbs!! WTF is in the car! Thought it was 3500. How you going to get to 3200-3300lbs?! Stg I for me...ehhhh BBK..sure, but not if I've only got $20k and know I want a Stg II from AA, and a nice set of Brembo's or AP. Not gonna happen. Throw in the Akropovic Titanium, and you're done. You find all that for under $20k and we'll chat again. Here is what I'm looking for: AA StgII = Approx $14k-15k Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust = $5795 Brembo/AP Racing = $6-$7k+ Decent set of ADV1s = $4k-5k+ Installation = an arm and a leg Total = Too much for just $20k $20k can go fast if you buy quality stuff. Depends on your tastes. Mine just so happen to be expensive. Last edited by GOVCO; 09-15-2011 at 05:46 PM.. |
