I have the Borla Atak and I had the same drone you are describing. However once I paired it with the Borla Xpipe it completely went away. Sound is even more amazing as well.

Hi guys, I just recently swapped to the borla atak exhaust, I have read a lot on the forum and most people say it doesn't drone as advertised, but I have been getting some moderate to occasionally serious drone around 2k and 3k rpm. Is this normal?
Select a lower gear to increase the revs … eat the $10 a month in extra fuel and enjoy the car! Seriously, if you are driving around at 2-3k RPM you need to get a different car!

Have finally put about 500 miles on the Borla Exhaust and the drone is almost completely gone. I'm planning on adding the x-pipe next week... What's another $1,100 when it comes to this car.
Awesome sound.. Really turns heads in our small town. Last edited by Zarilia; 07-31-2015 at 09:00 AM.. |

Umm, resonators are there to REDUCE drone. A straight pipe is only going to make it worse. That guy is an idiot. However, the stock X-pipe/middle mufflers are designed to work with the factory muffler, so you're not getting the same level of noise reduction as before. It's called an exhaust system for a reason. Also, to those who think the exhaust will get quieter after break-in...it's going to get louder as the packing settles and gets blown out. The only reason you think it's getting quieter is because you're getting used to the noise.

My ATAK drones at 2800-3000 RPM. Who cares lol. Exhaust sounds incredible. Hands down the best sounding note under $3k. Everyone says if you put on xpipe or test pipes the drone goes away anyhow and sounds even better. Excited to find out.

On a level of 1 to 10, if the stock exhaust is sound level 1 and straight pipes are 10, whats the Atak?
This thread has made me interested.

With stock x-pipe and Cats ..
When cruising under 3k RPM I would give it a 2-3. Its just a nice mellow roar still sounds great. You are definitely happy you upgraded. You can easily have a conversation and be plenty quite when you want to. When on the gas over 5-8.4k I would give it a 5-7. A nasty wail\roar that is undeniably unique and you are even more glad you upgraded. Its a beast when on it hard. These numbers are based on the straight pipes 10 being loud as all hell.

I was contacted by Chris at Borla earlier this week. He ended up sending me some Venturi's To try out before the catback. I will report back on this thread with results once I get them in. Thanks for following up and btw Chris did a great job working with me on a solution. It's great you guys stand behind your products the way you do.

I Received the Venturi's from Borla and had my muffler guy install them (see pics) At normal cruising speeds between 3000-3300 rpm where I used to get a pretty significant amount of drone I'm getting no drone. The only hint of drone I have noticed was going up a steep hill in 5 or 6 gear around 60 mph it's a little louder than normal but nothing like the drone used to be.
I was worried it would effect sound or even performance. I asked the rep from Borla and he said there's no chance the Venturi would show up on a dyno so I gave it a shot. Im happy to report I haven't felt or heard any side effects. I highly recommend anyone with any exhaust that's droning to try this method and especially any one who bought Borla because if you contact them they will send them out for free. No more drone
