Competition Pack?
Hello,
I am currently looking at a 2010 e92 M3 that is for sale on the east coast. However, when I called the dealer he said it's a competition package. I had thought the competition package came from 2011 to 2013. This car that I am looking at has the ZCP wheels as well as EDC. I know that you could just buy the wheels and call it a day so it may be the case for this car. Can anyone shine some light on this? I got the van and did decoding and did not see this specific competition package. From what I search online, ZCP is 2011 to 2013 but a lot of threads say that as long as the car has EDC and the ZCP wheels, it's a comp pack. Also the dealer is asking 41k for a car with 40k miles on it. Thoughts? |

Ask for the VIN and run it through a BMW VIN decoder.

Use mdecoder to find out definitively but ZCP was only available from 11+. Any year M3 can be optioned with EDC and someone can throw comp wheels or AG wheels on it aftermarket.

Definitely not a comp pack as that was offered on 2011+ models. Looks like they added the 359M wheels and the LCI tail lights.

That’s a sneaky move!
I’m curious what the value difference is for comp vs no comp. Is it greater than 359 wheels + LCI taillamps? ($2000 to retrofit?)

Yeah it was definitely interesting because I asked the dealership and he went to check and somebody said yeah It's a competition pack and that's when I started looking into it because I did remember it was 2011+. Nonetheless, the car looks clean but the price seems to be tad bit high

I mean fair is kind of subjective, no?
What are you willing to pay for the spec you want. Honestly I think 36-38 is fair but I mean the fact they have to lie about extra options would have me look elsewhere. What else are they lying about or is it they just have no clue or know how to do research on a car. But I mean as a dealer the first thing you should do is run the vin. |

I'd consider a West Coast car first. I'm in the middle of the US and my car came from Lake Oswego, OR. You know it got wet! West Coast cars are typically drier with less corrosion. At the time, I had a choice of one from Portland, Maine. The Maine car was rougher looking with 10,000 fewer miles. The Maine dealer posted it as immaculate! It fetched $40k on BaT.

$40k is actually not really too far off for the miles, if it also had maintenance records and a clean carfax. I would say depending on condition $37-$42 would be about right. Personally I would look for an actual comp, so a later year, but this one looks clean and add the manual to the mix is another plus.
And I also bought a west coast car, mainly due to the difficulty I had in finding what I wanted closer to home. And it was not for lack of trying, lol! Good luck to OP.

There was a competition package M3 here in Oregon but it had five owners and two accidents that involved front and rear but it was still a clean title but I did not want to touch that. Let's hope the video and the more detailed pictures come out good and then I can work out some kind of deal as I am looking to have this delivered |

I would totally roast this dealer. That's straight up false-advertising. This unit is supposed to come with the "S2MT BMW LA Wheel, M Double Spoke 220" wheels--not the 359.
Basically a set of pristine 359M is $2k like someone mentioned. But a true comp-package is more than just the wheels. Man...Dealers really piss me off.

Personally I’d walk away.
Find something closer to you local or not too far. I’m sure they’ll pop up. Also another thing is that east coast cars could possibly have rust so that will always be a headache |

Is it really that bad though? I mean I assume people live in the east and still have M3s. Looking at the Carfax, looks like the car spent majority of the time in California. The car was originally purchased in California and then the first owner sold it to somebody in Alaska, but then that owner re registered the car in Santa Clara, California and now it's at this dealership so it seems as Rust shouldn't be an issue

My one owner 2008 e92 that spent its entire life in Bend is sitting at my Dads house near Redmond…. I also previously bought an F80 M3 from Medford.
Good luck in your search. |

OP, here's a link with various useful info incl dates. Says March 2010 (production) but can't recall I've seen comp pack earlier than 2011 year model.
https://bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=50 Edit; oh you did check the VIN, well if not there its not a ZCP. Shape and mileage is much more important imo though as these cars are old and very often tired. Last edited by Helmsman; 03-11-2023 at 03:40 AM.. |
