Missed you guys! M3-->997 Turbo-->Aston Martin-->M3
Hello Fellow s65 Loyalists,
I'm happy to say that I'm back into an e92 M3. This is my third one and I couldn't be happier. A quick summary of my story below. My first m3 was an e92 and it was also my first new car. Kept it for five years, four years longer than any previous car. I lived in an apartment complex that didn’t have covered parking. On top of that, a neighbor backed into the rear quarter panel, requiring the entire panel to be repainted. I got the Porsche bug and decided to sell it and get a 997 Turbo. Ended up not liking the Turbo (I know, I’m one of the very few). Just wasn't fond of the lag, and the exhaust note wasn’t anything special. Decided to get back into an m3 so I picked up an e90. Just 3k miles into owning it, the rod bearings failed at 53k miles. After a long back and forth with BMW NA, they finally settled on paying 70% of the replacement as “good will.” I was still $7500 out-of-pocket. The engine came with a two year warranty so I decided to sell the car to recoup some of the costs. This put a bad taste in my mouth with BMW and I decided to jump into something else. Enter the Aston Martin v8 Vantage 4.7. This car I much preferred to the 997 Turbo. Still didn’t have the telepathic feel and playful nature of the m3. Not to mention “exotic car” visibility sucks and everything was difficult with this car. Things as simple as retrieving parking tickets from the lot machines required opening the door and tremendous reach. For this reason and the paranoia of damaging it, it sat in my garage for weeks at a time while I dreamed of a tach needle swinging past 8. Decided to keep my eye out for a Mineral White "DCT stripper" m3. After about a year, I found one and was able to obtain it at an awesome price. Picked it up, had the rod bearings replaced (thanks Malek) and here I am. Couldn’t be happier. Specs: 2011.75 e92 Mineral White - Competition Package - DCT - Leather Mods: - Carbon leather trim - Akra Evo w/carbon tips - BMW Performance front splitters - BMW Performance rear spoiler - Alpine tune - DCT GTS software - Euro MDM - Tinted windows - Black grills/fender pieces

Beautiful car! There is definitely something special about these cars. I am new to mine, but it has me captivated. Any reason you searched for "a stripper and DCT?"

Yeah, I strongly agree with both the previous posters.
I personally think after 10 years of this car being out...you now have the most ideal spec'd & modded E9X of all-time. (And I'm an E90 owner who plans to drive mine into the ground.) And I think that this is something only a former owner was likely to be able to determine, and it just happens to be a 3-time owner! The specs you have appear to be the perfect combo of desirable color, factory and aftermarket mods, updates & tuning. Had BMW created this car with these specs it would be one of the greatest factory spec'd cars of all-time, hands down.

To show the full chain U need to insert the 2nd M3 in the title between the Porsche and the Aston.

That was quite an adventure you went on, OP.
A lot of similar threads on this forum lately; the E9x M3 & S65 are truly special. Welcome back, third time's the charm and long live the S65!

Another boomerang, welcome back!
I did it backwards by getting a cheap 3 series, jumping to a Porsche next but the lust was real and I finally indulged and splurged for my M3!! |

That is quite the trip to get where you want. Ironically the only car that appeals to me after the M3 is a 911 Turbo (997 or later) which will probably never happen for at least a decade. I have never even driven one! Beyond the 911 it would have to be an V10 R8 in manual which is even bigger bucks than the 911. The M3 gets the job done and leaves me happy every time I drive it. |

How many miles does this car have / had when you had Malek replace the bearings? At only 35k miles, I have people tell me to do it NOW, as "cheap insurance", and other people tell me I can go a long time before needing to do the job. I think both are correct

I yanked mine at (I think) 58k miles. Sure, they did not look healthy compared to say, a Corolla, but they looked heaps better than most examples I see on here. That's just the nature of tolerance stacking - I'd say I got one of the larger spectrums comparatively. |

Congrats! I got into my second e92 DCT a little while ago and the first thing I had Malek do was the bearings. Been living at redline ever since.
