First M3 in USA (from the Ultimate Drive)
Although the title is not a lie, it's not entirely true. This past weekend I had the pleasure of driving the first e92 M3 to be officially on the streets of the United States, and for a good cause.
BMW brought around fifteen cars (at least one from each line), all Alpine White to support the Susan B. Kohen Foundation to help the fight against breast cancer. For every mile driven, BMW is to donate $1 to the cause. I got the call from Crimsone90 telling me about it and I took the redeye to Miami, Florida. After all, I work very hard and it's for moments like these. When we got there at 9:00am sharp there were about seven kids taking names in several lists, each list represented a first come first serve to drive each car. The roster included some of the following: e92 M3 B7 650i Convertible 335 Convertible 328 Convertible X5 550i 535i 535i (station wagon) And a few others. When the time came to drive the M3 I was really nervous, I don't know why but I felt like a kid again. Once I left the dealer, I see this little 'M' button, I decide to press it and next thing you know....POWER. There is no other word to describe it, RAW POWER. Currently I drive a 335i with Procede and Gruppe M intake, the difference could not be larger. The M3 is SO much faster, powerful....just better all around. We even raced the M3 with the 335 and there was just no competition. I remember once seeing a license plate on a 335i in this forum that read "M3 ETR", whoever you are, you better be changing that license plate because that M3 is coming and coming FAST. The Sound, or should I say ROAR, produced by the engine when rev'd just leaves you in awe, yet it's silent when it needs to, classic BMW. If the RS4 and the C63 AMG are dream cars, then the M3 surely can be called a WET dream. Aside from that, I drove all the other cars, for fun and the cause. The B7 is a must, pulling in an easy 165mph. I took a good look at the prototype Hyrogen 7. Very impressive, BMW surely is working with cutting edge technology. It is without a doubt the future, and totally blows hydrogen fuel cell technology out of the water. Oh yeah, the X6 was there too! All in all, It was a lot of fun, Breast Cancer survivors take the cars out for a parade in each city called the survivor drive. I recommend EVERYONE go and have a good time as they donate, for each mile of fun, a dollar to a very important cause. Contact your local dealer, I promise you won't regret it. |
