Thank you for the write up.

Mine is a 2008 manual coupé, 70k. Mid section cats replaced with test pipes, and a mild Benvo tune. I installed this catback two days ago and have some initial impressions:

The drone inside the cabin is intrusive and unattractive. The piercing quality of the sound is reduced beyond 2.5k rpms, but below that it's almost ridiculous.

I purchased the blue-tipped version and I think it looks sick. Symmetrical fitment, but it hugs my CF diffuser so they do not protrude or draw attention. It makes for an understated style that I like.

Installation wasn't hard, once I got over being intimidated by the thought of installing it myself. I put the rubber hangers on backwards onto the pre-axle pipes twice :/ but besides that it was simple. 3 hours total time, including an hour of figuring it out and undoing mistakes.

I am gonna wait for a month of break-in and hope it quiets down. Otherwise I'll need to modify/remove the system. It's that bad. Maybe its the mid section straight pipes?

I'm the OP. I've had mine on for quite some time now, and couldn't be happier with it. Still sounds awesome, and have tons of people asking me what exhaust it is at car shows we take the car to. Compared to the straight pipes on my Viper GTS, this exhaust has no drone at all haha.

Did the loud bassy sound under 2.5k rpms get less annoying as time went by?

I only have the CNT system and no other exhaust mods, so I don't have any loud bassy sounds under 2.5k. Overall the exhaust is definitely loud and deep, but not annoying or drone-y anywhere. I'll try and get a sound clip up soon.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find the 5% off coupon? Also did you purchase the exhaust from here: http://www.cntracing.com/product-p/cb-m3.htm

Awsome, thank you very much. I just picked up my 09 e92 M3 last night. Im loving it already. It seems most other exhaust cost a fortune. But this CNT exhaust seems to be very affordable and built well. Although Ive never heard of CNT exhaust.

CNT is ebay brand - well regarded in Suby game. The fit is meh so I recommend going to a muffler shop to do some custom fitting. Sound and look wise, you wont be disappointed.

I installed mine like two weeks ago, (DCT and midpipes Non sec-cats and resonators) and its loud. the sound will get a little lower the more you drive, it could be Im getting used to it lol...
The drome inside is out of this world below 2.5K as far as it creates some rattles in some parts of the interior. I always drive in manual, so I try to keep it below 2K or above 2.5K. that makes the drome go away.

If your m3 is your daily don't do it, if it is your fun car go ahead the sound from the outside is amazing.

The install is simple but take it to a muffler shop and save yourself some time trying to make it fit 100%. One side is always off by 1/2 an inch. (too low, to the left etc). One more thing... the clamps that come with the kit are not good(weak)

good luck

I already have the exhaust on order, should be here said Saturday. For $380 shipped new I just feel I couldn't go wrong. It seems to have gotten good reviews. Only issue is the drone you talk about as this is my daily driver. But I only plan on doing the axle back, no xpipe or anything else. That being said, is this still a very loud exhaust with tons of drone? And I really have no issues with loud lol

I will like to help you there, but that was not my case in regards to this exhaust. In my case I did the mid pipes first and then the axel back. I feel that keeping the resonators will do the trick in regard to drone. If I were you, I will do the exhaust and them remove the sec cats if you want louder.
Good luck with the install and keep us posted on your result.

I have the same setup you will be doing (stock exhaust with just CNT axle-back), and the drone is very minimal. Once the car is warmed up it idles very quietly, but once you give it gas it gets very throaty. Haven't heard a better sounding E9x M3, even with hearing Eisenmann at a local car show.

Has a deal of the day price for $400 and I used coupon code CNT509 which brought it down to $380 including shipping. Thank you to SRToad4 for the coupon code.

Well that's good to hear. Its amazing some of these exhausts cost over $4000. And this is only around $400 for a nice sound. Sometimes I wonder what the actual differences are between a $4000 system and something like the CNT or Megan exhaust. Also do you have any advice I should pass on to my install shop about installing it? Sounds like some people are having issues with the tips not lining up straight...

just received my CNT exhaust today. quality looks very good for only $380. but I have a question for you regarding the stock exhaust. Does the stock exhaust disassemble in the same way this CNT comes packaged? or is the stock exhaust one large cat back system that doesn't come apart?

Had my installed today. Your exactly correct, the drivers side sits lower than the passenger side. The install shop was tinkering with it trying to get it straight but couldn't figure it out. Its not off horribly. But definitely noticeable. Any idea how to get this fixed?

You will have to go to the shop again and remove the 4 bolts that hold the bracket that keep the two mufflers together. They will have to tap weld that bracket. That bracket was the problem in my case.

Hope this helps. Good luck

This exhaust sounds like an appealing option...but no sedan option?!?
