RTD v4 mini shifter

Alright guys just wanted to share this post for anyone that plans to get a RTD V4 shifter for their e9X m3.

First of all the built quality of this shifter was very nice. IMO it was worth every penny as I didn't like the shift the way the stock shifter felt. The shift on the rtd is really short, no slop, and very easy to install.

The only complaint I have is the shifter not coming with a rubber seal for the chassis mounting areat. Without that rubber cover expect all types of noise and air to channel through that mounting point. Eventually I couldn't handle the noise and amount of dust that was accumulating in the interior. So what i did to fix this issue was by using the oem rubber cover and cutting the bottom half where the thick mounting point is. Then apply some silicon glue to mount the rubber seal on the RTD shifter. This basically reduced all the noise and the air from channeling in.
I highly recommend doing this if you plan on getting this shifter.

Looks great! Does adding the rubber effect the shifting at all?

No there is enough space and buffer from any interference.

So for me it took 3 month due to some logistic issue they were having but they ended up giving me 50% discount which made up for the wait.

Yea it was straight forward.
You have to remove your stock mid pipes and the heat shields.
Uninstalling your oem shifter might be a little challenging because of the limited space but its a job that can be completed in 2-3hrs.

I ended up using a bunch of microfiber towels zip tied around some of the points that are open and the OEM foam too completely seal it.

Appreciate the tip with the rubber. I just ordered mine. Where did you get that shifter boot/bezel? I think that fits the RTD so well.

Anyone know if you can reduce the shift length on an RTD shifter?

Same here. My shop wasn't able to get the stock rubber seal to work so we went with the IRP boot. Works well after a little modification (see the quoted picture).

Great write up and adding pics. I’m ordering my shifter this week. I’m wondering if the RTD shifter has any rattles etc. I had an IRP in my other car and it rattled quite a bit. I would like to hear your review on this. Thanks
