Recall Notice - Power Supply System

I got this recall (Campaign no 19V-472). If it applies to you, check with your stealership.

Applies to "Model Year 2009-2011 BMW 333d, 2009 328i/328xi Sportswagon, and 2008-2013 M3 vehicles"

BMW will replace positive battery cable connector for free.

PS. I wish it was the bearings, would have been a nice 10th birthday present for my car

Yes, I just got this too and called BMW a couple of months when my car faced this issue.

The dealer told me that I still have to pay out of pocket because my VIN wasn't showing up as needing this recall, even though the recall campaign previously was for 08-13 E90s 3 Series, 08 M3, '10+ M3s.

Interesting part is, what happened to 2009 M3s? I complained quite a bit to BMW. Long story short, I was quoted $1400 for something that I already disassembled. So I took it a independent shop and paid $400 in labor, $200 for BMW to Diagnose the issues, and $150 for parts.

Now I'm trying to figure out if I can get reimbursed for what i've paid. But BMW said that I would only be able to get reimbursed for the Parts and Labor done at BMW shop not independent shop....

That's not true.

Notice states: Expenses paid to repair facilities outside of the BMW center network will be considered; however the repair procedure must meet BMW standards.

For some reason, BMW Canada does not show the blower motor and battery positive cable recalls for my MY2012 car, but it did for my MY2009 non-M.

I just worry that the dealer is going to tear up my interior and carpet to get to this cable. Lately there has been some garbage work being done at the dealers and I don't want to risk it.

Reading the recall notice it seems as if they only replace the connector from the cable itself to the fuse box behind the glovebox...so maybe they don't need to dig very far ?

Ive contemplated about this too. Is it worth the trouble if it isn’t broken?

got recall done today too, about 2 hours as well, they didn't bother entering the clock/date info from the battery disconnected (they take out the negative terminal on batt im assuming while working) . They left the wire for my battery tender all bunched up under the battery when it should be just sticking out under the carpets, and a bunch of grease finger prints all over the dash/glovebox

2 hours? They said it would take one day so they gave me a loaner... from Enterprise, I even saw them drive my car into the shop when I was waiting for Lyft to take me to Enterprise.

I got it done today as well.
At the dealer, they replaced a very small portion of the cable from the fuse panel and screw it tight to the fuse panel.
Very simple job and no ill effects after. (no check engine light or the alternator going bad etc......)
The service advisor saying that it was a simple job but if you wait for too long then it can destroy the entire battery cable or the fuse panel.
That's why it can take days to get fixed and costing so much for some people.

I dread recalls. So. Much.

Having these mechanics and "master techs" poking around my car is my nightmare. These guys could give two shits about the cars that come in there. They do the bare minimum to get the car in and out on a time crunch since there's a line of bmws behind them.

Some love recalls as it seems like something "new" being replaced. I see it as an oppurtunity for BMW techs to screw something up

I'm really confused as to why no one would want to not perform this recall. When your SOL, that's when you wish you did it. Unfortunately, I was on the receiving end of this since I got locked out TWICE on separate occasions during opposite times of the year. Then, maybe a handful of times where the car's dash lit up WHILE driving with 1-2 seconds of POWER LOSS.

Alternator problems because of this? Really...? The 4 of you went to the same dealer to do this? Possible that they messed *something* up? You're literally cutting a wire, splicing it back together and the other end is connected to the fuse box in a much more secure manner. I had alternator problems too, when I reached like 170k, 2 years after I DIY'd this and it was because the alternator lived through its life.

If anyone's curious, I have a thread about it.

Yeah I don't doubt their work but my cars got a tune and a few fuse mods and I'm using the glove box fuse box for power supply storage for a few things and my car has a tune and some coding stuff, I don't really want them to touch it but I doubt they'll let me do it. What's the risk on leaving it? I haven't had the blower recall done yet either. I've checked the wiring. Thanks
