...I agree that generally they don't have the credibility on the street as japanese bikes, but that is mostly because BMW bikes cost about 50% more than the rest, so seeing one is rare, and then seeing one that is modded "as to be cool and gain street cred.," even more rare. If you were to go to a race track club, such as the Autobahn country club in Joliet, IL (where the initiation fee is $30,000 and annual dues are $3,000)...places like theses where there is more serious racing....you'll see a whole lot more BMW bikes, where they have more cred, or at least as much cred as the japanese bikes.

My wife's 1990 Honda VTR250 revs to 14,000rpm and makes 33hp. Still no replacement for displacement.

I had a 750cc Ninja back in the 80s. It could go to 60 in under 3 sec's, and around 11 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

I don't even like to think about what the new bikes can do.

The MTT Turbine SUPERBIKE can do 0-60 in 0.5 seconds.

Bikes are soo, WOW! I'd pay good money to learn to ride one. Shoot, I'd buy one right now, this afternoon, if only I knew how to ride one, handle one, ect... I wouldn't wanna spend 10k on one and end up crapping it the first week.

Any suggestions..

yeah, take MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) classes, they are free but fill up very fast! Also, it wouldn't hurt to take some professional classes and track time....but that can add up very fast $$$$$$$.

Is that the same bike that Jay Leno has? The one with the jet engine?

You didn't burst any bubbles, thanks.

I know exactly what BMW Motorcycles are, and those pictures are still sick.

This is just about the most ignorant statement ever.

They have credibility with me, and I'm... oh... about 20 or so.

I'm sorry, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with BMW motorcycles, and they can run quite capably with the japanese bikes, all the while providing a different riding experience. The only delusions in this thread are your insinuations to the contrary.

Furthermore, your troll-like rambling in this thread about how they have no "street cred" is, frankly, irrelevant.

You clearly don't know anything about motorcycles. Why not ask a motorcyclist what they think of BMW motorcycles? BMW is kind of the saab of motorcycles, the brand you choose when you want to be different for the sake of it. They are clearly inferior in performance and handling to almost any japanese or italian alternative

BMW makes nice motorcycles, unfortunately against their Japanese counterparts they are too expensive to purchase, to expensive to maintain, and are not as reliable.

Iron Butt riders have proved this mile after mile. I believe that last year, on the last day before the end, the rider in the lead on his R1150RT dropped the transmission.

Can you tell that I have a Honda ST1300 and not a R1200RT or K1200GT? I would love to have the K1200GT, however, I would rather spend my money on tires and ride than on services.

BTW, the 1000km service on that BMW bike can cost upwards of $500 CAD. For an oil change and bolt check. At the 6000km service, it is over $1000 CAD and they want your bike for 2 days.

...and you thought the cars were pricey...

Now this I can agree with.

Okay, I still maintain that they are clearly not, but you can continue to say whatever it is you are saying without swaying my opinion.

For the record, I know several motocryclists (only one of which collects BMWs exclusively) and all still clearly regard BMW's as desirable. Expensive to buy and maintain, yes. Lacking in peformance or refinement or desirability, no.

Sorry.
