Version 2.0 MPEs are distinguished by holes in the top and bottom of both canisters. Additionally, V2.0 units show an update to the part number plate on the exhaust canister itself: The last number on the version 2.0 number plate is "X-ed" out and has a number 4 in its place. See attached picture from my previous E90 M3 V2.0 Exhaust. (Note: Both the E90 and E92 V2.0 MPEs have the last number replaced with a 4).

The exhaust sounds perfect to my ear. It comes alive over 3k, and sounds subtly aggressive on start-up in a very satisfying manner. It does not detract from the beautiful induction noise the S65 produces.

Do not purchase this exhaust if you are looking for LOUD; you will be disappointed.

I hope to update this post in a year or two and provide an update on how the sound has changed and if any cracks emerge. The cracks are supposedly resolved with V2.0.
I would love to hear if anyone has the carbon fiber air intake paired with the MPE!

FYI prices dropped recently. GetBMWparts.com has them for $2300. I'm waiting to hear if they have V1 or V2 as they weren't sure. I would hope all the V1s are long gone by now.

Bummer! I'm not ready to buy yet but wouldn't go for a V1 unless it was like $1000 off. I'll pay attention when the time comes.

Also noticed the price drop and interested in the v2 for the E90; has anyone found the V2 in stock? List pricing has dropped across the board it appears.

Nothing so far. Seems like part of the problem is BMW won't fully acknowledge that an updated version of the MPE exists.

EAS has one for $4k, maybe that is V2. Way above my willingness to pay so I didn't follow up with them.

BMW currently shows 2 more of the E92/93 version available in the US. After those are gone, they will go on backorder with an ETA of 4/8 out of Germany. We have confirmed with BMW at the PDC that the two remaining units are indeed V2's (with the holes) if anyone wants to grab one while they last.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM.

EDIT: lol I posted at same time as above - thanks Jason. I just ordered one of those two as it is not known how long these will be produced or what numbers available. Price is too good to miss out on.

I think I just snagged one of these since my exhaust was originally arriving in June from Germany but just arrived this week instead. I looked at the tracking and it said it was from Tischer

Thanks for the reminder surewin

I have put about 10k miles on the MPE since purchase.

So far, no issues. Exhaust has gotten slightly louder (in a good way) since purchase and sounds better than ever.

1 Year update:

I have put about 15k miles on the exhaust and it has held up great; no cracking. The sound has gotten slightly deeper, and perhaps slightly louder, but the tone is perfect to my ear.

One issue: The black inner portion of the exhaust tips has begun to wear-off. I will likely just remove the rest of the black by polishing it off, like others have done.

Here is a thread that discusses this issue in detail:
https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1357686

Here is a picture (not mine, thanks FMLYSDN ):

Same here! V1 since ‘13 with no issues. I did touch up the inner portion that’s painted black with a little hi-temp paint and it looks brand new again.

I have the MPE v2 and absolutely love it. I've been on the fence about going catless but now thinking about the RKP - Street X Pipe since I would keep the cats on. I know I wouldn't get the same performance as going catless but curious if anyone has this setup.

I have a Dinan intake and Stage 1 (Alpine) tune. I could go catless and get stage 2 but I don't track it, at least not yet. Also don't want to smell like gasoline when I get out of my car.
