Pre 09/09 air filter discontinued?

Got off with FCPEuro. They said BMW and Mahle both discontinued the pre 09/09 air filter.
"BMW does not currently have 13727838805 in their catalog; they are shipping 13727838804 in its place. Unfortunately, the only solutions here are to either replace the air box, or, proceed with an aftermarket filter that is compatible with the current air box in your M3. "

What would be the next viable air filter option for our older E9xs?

I was told this by my dealership parts guy a few months ago. He made extra effort to make sure I got the right filter but had also told me to get ready to go aftermarket. Looks like this corroborates with that. Damnit.

i believe EAS sells the nub you need for the airbox. you don't have to replace the entire lower airbox.

read the description to see if it is what you need.

The eas one seems to be the other way around.

Vehicles Supported
E9X EU Spec M3
E9X US Spec M3 (not required on 2008-2009 US M3 models)

that may mean the macht schnell filter will be one option to go for the 08~09s

This Macht Schnell adapter is to convert the post 9/2009 US airbox/ECE airbox to the pre 9/2009 US airbox. The airbox itself is the same (both numbers are printed on it) but the spring-loaded support is different. We are looking into finding a solution to convert the pre 9/2009 airboxes to utilize the post 9/2009 air filter. Hoping to have something soon.

BMC and aFe still manufacture the pre 9/2009 filter. We were caught off guard by this change. I became aware of this issue over the weekend from another customer who couldn't install their air filter. They ordered the correct one but got sent the wrong one all due to this supersession. It's a really silly change and the suggestion by BMW to have to change the entire airbox is not reasonable. We're working on a solution for this problem that doesn't involve a $100+ air filter. Hopefully, we'll have something soon for you guys.

it's just very unfortunate that BMW seems to be dropping the balls on us. and I also found out K&N seems to also dropped the pre 2009/09 filter vintage.

Tried to stock up on a couple of the 13727838805 as Pelican showed them still available…they sent the 04s. Every other place I checked said NLA.

Seriously, BMW? You decided to change air filter design mid production yet you elect to stop making the original air filter leaving owners with limited aftermarket air filter options. Thanks BMW.

Subscribing for the FCPEuro fix here. The cheapest LCI used airbox I can find on ebay is around $300 with shipping. That's because it's so big and I imagine shipping is quite the bit of cost for such a large volume.

Anyone try the ECS Tuning Exact-fit Dry Air filter? Looks interesting, will fit '08 models and dry filter, so no worries about oiling/re-oiling.
