Worth higher mileage E92 M3 For Less $??

So I see some 6 speed M3's for 20-30k with 60k+ miles on them or under 40k miles for 35-55k... Is it really worth getting a low mileage M3 due to less engine/tranny wear etc? Or are the prices significantly higher just due to those wanting a low mileage car and it being more "rare"? I plan to supercharger it by the way. Thanks guys!

It all depends on what you are looking for spec wise if you're asking me. Some specs go for higher prices as there were less produced and or sought after by folks. I would look for the lowest mileage in my budget but wouldn't shy away from a cheaper higher mileage car. Less mileage if you can't work on cars yourself to avoid service stuff and wear and tear items. I think proof of service performed during prior ownership is a plus. I would also budget around 3,500 for service stuff as soon as I bought the car for piece of mind moving forward. These cars are pretty stout IMO so take your time and be patient and the perfect car will pop up for ya. The mileage thing is pretty much going to effect the price though just like any car.

Makes sense, I appreciate that response! Just crazy how much that vary in price. I see a 2013 now with 20k miles for 55k... Do they actually sell for these insane prices?!

I wouldn't hesitate a higher mileage E9X M3 if I knew the owner was an enthusiast and took care of it. Service records are a big plus. Overall, the cars are pretty reliable with basic maintenance and care.

Get a Euro E92 M3. It comes with sport suspension standard which was optional on US spec M3s (aka competition package).

Great bang for the buck is the 100k mile car for $15-20k.

He's in the States, so we can't just "get a Euro car." And this information is wrong anyway.

I was searching basically from the beginning of the year for a super nice E9x. Months later I found a higher mileage one with 87k miles and some nice upgrades and I jumped on it for much cheaper than I was looking for. It’s a great thing as I love putting on miles on my car and couldn’t do that to a super low mileage mint one. Mine has imperfections and such but the maintenance record was longer than many I looked into so I got it. Depends what you want out of a car, for me a clean one was going to to be parked much mor in the garage and the high mileage one I don’t care how much I drive anymore

I think if you plan to supercharge it and keep the car for an at least a couple of years, then I would try to find a lower mileage example. Otherwise, I do feel that some of these higher mileage examples are exceptional values.

At least JP spec got sport suspension as standard. I can refer to the part number difference if you'd like.

Yeah, this car is flirting with appreciating now so low mile cars are going for a real premium. I think a big factor is rod bearings and TAs. Buyers are thinking if they buy a low mile car then they won't have to address these issues and deal with a failure, but I'm just guessing that's a factor.

Right, but you said Euro, and buying a JP spec isn't any easier. Anywho, cheers

I forgot to mention I have 220,000 on mine and it's going strong! So mileage isn't a complete deal breaker.

I see.

All JP spec E92 M3s are fundamentally Euro spec, but with a sportier suspension. Other Euro spec M3s may have identical spec suspension to US spec M3s.

So I suppose there is an issue with importing newer vehicles in USA? From my experience, I would always go with used JP imports because they are generally well maintained due to mandatory inspections every two years (sha-ken).

Yes it's a huge pain in the ass. But with enough money anything is possible.

For me, I was more interested in the Carfax (which I know can be manipulated) and the amount of owners. I also believe with these cars (when buying the higher mileage ones 60k+) a willingness to take risks with doing some basic maintenance and repairs is needed. A basic scanner and set of tools. I think that's were the value is at.

I picked up my DCT E92 w/ EDC with 73k miles for $19k and then did TBAs, rod bearings, and mechatronics seal in the first 2 months. I wanted to get something at a lower initial cost so I could tack on each of those maintenance items.

How I looked at it was stretching for a $30-$35k example with maybe 15-20k less miles and still needing to add each of those services would've put a damper on it for me.

Reality is that even with "low miles" (i.e. 30-50K), you're still likely to need to address TA's, random leaks and possibly RB's soon anyway just because of age at this point. The youngest of the E92 M3's are now over 7 years old, so maintenance and some restoration will be required most likely anyway, at least if you want to have confidence in driving it hard. To me, a car with 65k+ and lots of maintenance and restoration already done is a worthy buy.

A 97k mile e92 manual sold on Bring a trailer recently for $27k plus fee. I think it was a good buy as RBs, TAs have been done and all maintenance is up to date. Plus it was a great color and spec, and had some tasteful mods.

WOW. And that's closer to $30k out the door with fees. Good spec except for a gray interior, which is a pretty big detractor. Hope to see prices trend in this direction moving forward.

As a former dealer, I can you tell you that Carfax is a complete joke. I had cars in the shape of boomerang from previous accidents and they had a clean carfax. When buying a car like E92 M3, the biggest focus should be maintenance history and not carfax/autocheck. One should definitely perform a PPI but at the end of the day one is buying a 10-12-year-old car, so most will have accident history by now even if it is not reflected in Carfax.
