Schrick 292 + Akra Evo

I installed a Schrick 292 camshaft a few days ago, and the picture is the result of ECU tuning.

My Mods of engine and exhaust are
stock intake with K&N drop in filter.
Akra Evo

I uploaded the STD and SAE graphs together.
Since each shop shows different dyno measurements even for the same vehicle, so I also uploaded graphs that compares the data measured with other E92 M3 in the same shop.

The ECU mapping was done very conservatively. Because My M is trackday only car, it is set to focus on stability and durability rather than pulling out max power. So, A/F ratio and ignition timing are not aggressive.
With the aggressive setting, the STD got almost 420 hp, but I didn't want it.

(I have now ordered the Karbonius Intake. After installation, ECU will be mapped again.)

Wow...jealous. How does the car feel with the cams? Any less "streetable" (weird idle, etc etc) And did you raise the rev limit at all?

Wow. It makes a ton of power up top even without headers. Very interested to know if it loses any power below 3k.

How does the car sound with the 292s?

How was the cams install? Did you limit vanos or change the valve springs?

Idle and rev limits are stock. 780 & 8400.
My stock idle rpm was always 780-800 without modification when I installed the AKra Evo. (I don't know why, but always 780)

The engine is a little rough during cold start, but it's not severe, and it gets better as soon as the temperature rises slightly.
IMO, if idle rpm is set to around 800~830, it will be exactly the same as the stock even at cold start.
Of course, there is a slight drop in torque at less than 2500rpm in the data. But if I don't have full throttle, I can't feel the difference with stock.
Since I rarely drive on public roads, and rarely step on the accelerator hard or speed up a lot because my car is track only car, I didn't feel any difference in test driving on public roads in my driving style.

No VANOS limit...still stock
Valve springs, retainers and keys were replaced with schrick's parts as recommended by Schrick.

Does it idle any differently? I have a set of these waiting to go in.

Would love to see what the car would do with a catless xpipe.

It's nothing strange. OG already had similar results, although tuning is not complete IIRC.

I've been saying it for years already, 292 cams are the real deal. If you get the Schrick setup you don't need to limit vanos or do any other weird crap, it's plug and play.

With BW LT headers and Karbonius I'm sure we'll end up getting 420-430whp out of a 4.0L with 93 octane fuel

To put these numbers into context, my completely stock F80 CS gets 435whp. It's a great result for the S65

Looking at the curves: blue is stock, green is FBO Stage2 and red is 292 cams. Note that OP needs a better xpipe (Bimmerworld or ESS forward placed Xs) to have the torque curve stay constant until 6k rpm, but overall you see the important things: stock cams stop creating power after 7500rpm, 292s allow power to continue increasing.

People keep asking about raising the rev limit: you shouldn't go beyond 8500rpm if you have hydraulic lifters.

I haven't seen anyone do it inside the car, so it's an engine out job.

Well if I'm pulling the engine then the rods, pistons and crank are going to become a lamp/table combo and be replaced. What's the limiting factor of doing them in the car?

I would never allow someone to touch the insides of the engine. No one is replacing rods/cranks/pistons on my S65s.
But anyway, it's very different to pull an engine, remove the valve covers and do cams than to crack the block open. And one of the two solutions is not going to blow up later.

It may be possible to do the job while it's in the car but you'd be working in a very tight space.

Don't you have a stroker S65? Or did it blow up?

Gotcha. Limited space would be a pain for sure but if they're all bolt in parts that don't require limiting vanos or checking piston to valve clearance then I suppose it would be doable in the car, just a massive pain. Just thinking out loud.

I really got to stop reading M3post. It's bad for my bnak account. I really want those Schrick 292s now.

I have a stroker S65, that's where the experience comes from

My street E92 may get 292s but never internal work
