Like Longboarder I have some fancy cars, but I wanted a car that would reward skills on the track and yet wouldn't be a financial disaster if it was totaled (here in Oregon, unless you buy separate insurance for the track, you're on your own). I have 3 sons (7,11,15), and I want AutoX and track days to be something we can do together. The '10 997.2 GT3 became worth too much, so in came a pristine '11 e90.
I already had a C6 Z06 and don't want to see that interior again. So nothing else would substitute for a ~$40k S65. |

I'm planning on keeping my M3 for the long run. Love looking forward to letting that V8 scream on the weekends.
That being said I plan on adding either a 991.2 Carrera T or a 718 GTS or used Cayman GTS to take up the second bay in my 2 car garage. The cars that's outside is my Trail team FJ Cruiser, my wife's VW CC (will replace with something electric in a few years), and my soon to be mine electric M3 I need to cut back on the number of cars but they all have their uses.... |

I wonder if all the 991 and 997 guys on the P car forums say "my next dream car is the E9X M3". Or do they say "I'm looking to get a DD or beater E9X M3". Hopefully they even know who we are.

I'll admit, I am not a BMW fan at all. My i8 ownership was too sleep-inducing. My drives in F8x Mx, M5s, and even an M6 GC left me severely wanting. I stuck with E63s, Panameras, etc. But the S65... there's only one 8600 rpm V8 available out there in pristine condition in the $40k-ish or less. E46 does do anything for me. Even the E9x chassis is....... meh. But the S65. There aren't other engines out there in a price range that one can beat on the track surrounded by others of questionable skills. |

Those who have never driven on will never really understand. read up on these guys and go for a spin in one, i promise they will make you smile or crap your pants ... they are a bargain if you can get past the interior. That being said i wouldn't trade my m3 for one although a c7 will be my next ride. |

I'm not thinking about price, rather on experience that car provides.
Maybe E63 M6 as well if I want to get lazy.

for overall performance in the $40k used range with nothing else considered, the two possible answers for me would be:
1. Corvette 2. $10k car + $30k race prep

If Alfa Romeo can make the Guilia QV more reliable in the coming years, I'd go for one of those. Not sure if I'd replace the M3 or just add it to the garage :/

Hey thanks!...i am barley in "the club" Ha!.. mine is just a base stingray stripper Lt1 no z51 or anything near as cool as your GS . Hell i dont even have the dry sump 500 mile break in oil change to look forward to. I didn't want a used one so money was a big factor for me.
I'll work my way up in the future. But this as is is very satisfying! |
