Thumbs down Car Creaks like CRAZY

My car creaks like fcking crazy! I did a search, I am sure others have experienced this too and I swear it is not me being overly paranoid, but my car creaks and rattles so much on the interior it’s insane! If I’m just driving along on the freeway, not much, but if I hit speed bumps, bumpy road (I live in LA so they’re everywhere), it’s crazy. Anyone else experience excessive creaking and rattling on the interior of the car? It sounds like it’s the entire door frame or something, in both the front and rear.

Might have answered my own question....

Could be this

"I developed a love/hate relationship with the M3 after tooling around Southern California," notes senior editor Edward Loh. "I do love the shocking acceleration; this thing embarrasses many true sports cars not just from a light, but from 60 mph on the freeway. Hit the M button, mash it, and you're gone -- just remember to pull back on the right paddle or you'll bang into the limiter in about 1.5 seconds."

And the hate part? "Over speed bumps, in and out of driveways, any motion that puts torsional stress on the chassis induces a creaking noise from the back seat.

Mine has rattled from the factory. I think it's coming from the box in the center of the roof (with the lights and heating/cooling.) I had them look at it when I took it in for the break-in service, and they took it apart, and put it back together, only now it's worse. I would check that part, if I were you -- it was pretty difficult for me to pinpoint it to that location.

Rattle in left side of dash. Pushing up on the "eyebrow" silences it. Something a bit loose. Taking it in when I can spare the driving experience.

Lol, nice post spence! I just fixed a crazy rattle at lunch today. It was like giving birth the next time I drove my car.

This happened to be a clip that fell of a panel an was rattling agains the metal.

As for the crazy creaking. I get it everytime I enter a driveway. It the rubber seals in the door jambs. I have thought of using a dry lube or something but didn't want to mess anything up.

I think it's more for us e90 guys. If you drive an e90 and say you don't have this, YOU ARE LYING OR DEAF!!! :-) it's even worse if you are lowered and drive with M on all the time.

My 328 did not have this at all. This car is just soo much stiffer. Tradeoffs! Lol

While on ED, mine developed an annoying rattle in the back window area. Dealer fixed it before I ever got it back. Turned out it was the rear deck vent.

Seriously, you're complaining about LA roads being bumpy? I was there a few weeks ago, the bumpiest roads in compton were smoother than our best road (west side highway) in NYC.

But back on topic, yeah I the rattles are nuts. I just try to ignore them now, and consider them part of the experience. I accidentally ended up on 2nd ave a few weeks ago (those of you in the city will know what I'm talking about) and I felt like I was stuck in an old barnhouse. If you figure out where they're coming from and how to fix them, let us know!

Mine is possessed with rattles when it is very cold. It gets better as it warms up but it is not completely quiet. I chalk it up to there not being a perfect car no matter what the price.

Mine never had a rattle. Sorry, but I don't think your creaking is normal. Can't the dealer do something about it? Oh wait, disregard that question; I know the answer.

Cheers.

the moment u have the dealer tear your whole car apart to find/fix a rattle, it will come back to you rattling 10 times worse AND in places you didnt even know existed. nothing in the world can tighten nuts and bolts like them billion dollar robots there on the assembly line.

You just never know. I picked up literally the first M3 in my area in April of '08 and would have expected some rattles..(ya know, new model, early production etc)..but nothing at 35,000 miles so far....

My center console rattles and I can shut it up by putting downward pressure on it with my right arm. I'm going to have the dealer look at it when I get an oil change in February. However, they never could fix the rattles I have in my 335i vert. Not sure they even looked.

They are sure as hell going to fix the rattles in this one. Rattles drive me crazy.

Maybe it's because I'm used to driving crappy cars that the creaks and rattles don't even bother me. :/

Mine rattles and creaks since day 1 too. Definitely a lot more than I was expecting from a $70K car. But yes, it's worse in winter. After car warms up, it mostly disappears on decent roads. But any bad road brings them up in a hurry. The worst offender is the stupid middle of the dash speaker grille cover (or whatever that is). Which reminds me of starting a new thread on how to remove that freaking part, hopefully without having to remove the dash, which I won't do. I'd settle with quieting that one.

Mine just pops off. You need one of those nylon crow bar thingies, and pry from the front. You might need to push down on the dash (it gives) to get the crow bar thing in there. CAVEAT: I have the standard audio, not the enhanced premium so I don't have the speaker under there. YMMV. Good luck.

Cheers.

I have a pretty annoying rattle coming from the driver's side door/window area, when I hit bumps or rough'ish road, wind noise as well from the driver's side window and maybe front the front window... It's pretty annoying. I have other's that come and go. Been meaning to have the dealer look at the driver's door, but I'm leery to let them mess with it. I threw some of that 1Z gummi flage (sp?) stick stuff on my seals, but no improvement.

Mine creeks as well when going into driveways, worse when I go in at an angle (which I have to do some places to prevent scraping).

I have a small area of fairly deep scratches (in different directions) on the left rear corner of my sunroof, they haven't gotten worse, but I've yet to figure out how they got there.

This is an E90 problem. Exact same on the E60 M5, would drive you insane and is even worse if you have a sunroof.

these threads popped up last year as the weather was getting colder. It's a simple explanation of the cold causing materials to contract and thus the rattles. every car has this issue.

Have a small creak when going over speedbumps, like the suspension needs oiling, but other than that been pretty solid IMO
