Cleaned engine bay, and car did not explode.

Quickly cleaned the engine bay this morning.

Gunk original
Engine was warmed
Light shower setting on garden hose nozzle

All systems go

Why? Do you cringe when driving in the rain? I've been doing this for thousands of miles and not a single issue. It's designed to get wet. Submersion though, different story

Never said it was bad you're getting it twisted. Just not a pleasant site to look at. Engine-water

Thank you for this post. I was wondering if it was safe to hose down the engine bay and I guess this answered my question.

It is safe to use running water on engines. Just don't use a jet spray, and avoid electrical areas like fuse boxes and ECUs. Most people get in trouble when they get water into the ECU.

Yeah notice I had the water setting on a low shower. The electrical stuff is located under the black box, pass side, behind the strut tower. Even if some water spray got into that, there is also a secondary enclosure that is water tight if i remember correctly. The driver side has the brake components

Would it be a good idea to leaf blow the water dry once you hose it down? We have seriously hard water so I hesitate to let water dry on any surface.

You could just start the car up and let the heat do it's thing

Or on second thought would that leave spots from hard water? Haven't had that issue so not sure.

Haha yeah. I'm not sure if the heat would leave spots and I'd rather leave the bay dirty than have to deal with cleaning off hard water spots.

i know that hard water will leave spots on the car body if it's not dried, so I'm guessing it's the same situation when cleaning the engine bay. It wouldn't hurt to dry it with a blower though if you'd like.

Better idea, take the car out for a highway drive and it should be OK. If you think about it, the road grime that gets into the bay is probably worse than hard water.

Haha I have to do mine. If you have access to a steam cleaner, it does wonders. If not, sometimes I take the hottest wet microfiber towel that I can handle, wrap it on the steering wheel, and start wiping after a few seconds.

My M3's seats are in good shape, but I my wife's Grand Cherokee's seats are terrible. It is a 2015 and has heated and cooled perforated leather(?). They seem hard and brittle-ish compared to the M3's supple and softness.

Do you guys know if these products will fix this? Sorry, I cant find a good forum like m3post for the Grand Cherokee...

The kind of leather used on the seats makes the difference. What you can try is to get some leatherique products and see if that helps out.

Clean is key. Start with a good brush and any cleaner and go from there.
