$80k for an M3 vs used M6

Fully equipped DCT it will be $72,350 Add tax = $78k

Anyone else having a problem with this?

I just can't rationalize spending $80k on a 3 series.

Used M6's are about that price now.

I just put down a deposit for a 2006 M6 with 8000 miles for nearly the same price. HUD, illuminated door sills, an interior thats completely covered in leather lol

seems like a much better deal to me

Rather than answering directly I will answer with a question. What is the price of a fully loaded M6 with M-DCT. Oh yeah, ooops, you can't get one, just tell me the price of a fully loaded M6 with the same percentage state tax you used in your calculation above.

I've optioned my future M3 out at 73K and that includes sales tax and the gas guzzler (fun) tax. I've hardly skipped anything. That even includes the rear sunshade. I'm ok with $73k. I only have a 3% sales tax though. $78K is a bit much.

When you compare the M3 to the C63 which will probably be more it isn't so bad.

I wouldn't touch an M6 since it is ugly to me and much bigger.

Sincerely, warmest wishes, may the wind always be at your back and may your next home electronics purchase be deeply discounted,

Depends on what you're looking for. Two completely different cars but you can't really go wrong with either one. I'd probably go with the M6, but if you're going to track your car, go with the M3. $80k is a lot of money regardless what you're getting, you can't look at the M3 as just another 3 series for $80k. If that's how you look at it then just get a 335i coupe and mod it.

Here's one for $84k with only 7,600 miles here in NY. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true

The one you found for $73k with only 8k miles is an awesome deal, i say go for it.

If you cant justify getting a new M3 for almost the same price as a used M6 just get the used car.

Not that this matters to the average M6 owner, but since we're pinching pennies here talking about new vs used, you might also NOT like the 9mpg that the M6 offers. The M3 will be a little better of a daily driver too, in addition to sounding nicer than the ugly V10 that some people mistake for a diesel....

The fact that the front of the M6 looks like a Blue Whale's head kind of kills the deal for me:

When shopping for $80,000 used cars, I will have Porsche ahead of BMW on my list.

Precisely what performance category will the M6 improve upon vs. the M3? None I can think of.

The M6 will definitely give you a bigger pocketbook penis though.

your not seriously putting that engine down are you, it may not sound too great once you turn it on, but it goes plenty well when you step on it and thats enough for me. Have you driven one? I have and I hope you put it on your to do list b/c its amazing....

I wouldn't buy the M6 b/c I'm not sure what the previous owner did to it and a car like an M6 is driven hard IMHO and for it to be selling w/ so low miles for so little worries me a great deal...plus I've been waiting too long for the M3 and you don't get to go to the Driving Experience if your not the 1st owner.

Will the M6 give the same mileage as the M3 if it is set to Normal mode for Power (400 hp)?

Low miles used cars are usually better deals than new, if they are what you want. Personally, The M6 is too bloated and heavy, and I could not live with a V10 getting under 15 mpg. Sure it's got 500 hp, but 3,900+ nose-heavy pounds for essentially a 2-seater? Ugh.

But, you've got to get what pushes your buttons.

I don't understand this whole talk about gas mileage, especially from people who are buying $60k car and according to the poll, 50% earn over $150k.

M3 - 14/20
M6 - 12/18

Both cars use premium gas, so no savings there.

Lets calculate for city:

M6: ($3.40/gallon)*(gallon/12 miles)*(12,000 miles)=$3,400
M3: ($3.40/gallon)*(gallon/14 miles)*(12,000 miles)=$2,914

Annual price difference: $486

If you owned the car for 4 years that equates to $1,944.

You crossed up your numbers malter.
Furthermore, the M3's numbers are based off the new mileage rating scheme. I don't believe those M6 numbers are. So, basically you aren't comparing like numbers. The numbers for the M3 would be higher under the 2007 rating scheme.

I saw the M3 at the auto show and I just wasn't impressed with its looks. it lost the pudgy and muscular look the E46

the big long phallic hood & low profile of the 6 does it for me
