I poured over thread after thread on this whole issue of wheel weight, sprung vs unsprung weight, etc, etc, etc, before buying new wheels last month. With some of the comments on this issue, you'd think adding an extra 2 pounds of unsprung weight would set your performance back to that of a 335, or even a 328. This simply isn't so. We're talking about fractional differences here.

The answer really needs to be taken in context....i.e. if you track your car frequently, or challenge every 997 at a red light to a drag race, then yes, a pound or two would probably make a difference. For those that use their cars as daily drivers, or more recreational-type use, and hit the occassional back-country twisties, don't worry about a pound or two.

I went from the OEM 220 wheels to a VMR 710 w/ spacers, and I cannot detect any perceptible change in performance......on the street. I don't track my car, but I also don't drive my car like I'm on a neverending Sunday stroll. I'm pretty agressive and I would consider myself pretty discerning in the performance of the vehicles I drive.

By the way, I like Black on Space Gray.

The VMR710 in satin black look amazing!

I think Space Gray is one of those unique colors where you can pull off both (1) aggressive black finishes and (2) classy silver finishes with no problem. I'm personally still running OEM ZCPs, but this thread is definitely giving me ideas.

If you were planning on going with some BBKs, I'd definitely opt for a darker finish for some contrast.

Anything less than 3 lbs will make no difference at all. BTW, what are the specs on your wheels and tires?
