bmw e90 m3 driveshaft cv rattle and clunking tinking noise

Hi all,
Here's a recording from under my car of two noises.

Listen closely and you'll hear both a rattle that sounds exactly like a bad cv joint. The other is a clunking, or 'tink' noise that's also coming from the driveshaft.
I'm pretty sure I know what's causing both these issues. I'm putting this video here so others might find it a useful reference. Also I'll post back here as I deal with these issues to confirm or change what I've found.

-Cv Noise - there is in fact a cv joint halfway along the driveshaft. ( part
#17 here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=26_0202 ) I'll be ordering a new one.

-Tink noise - funnily enough I had this noise in my E39 530i. Drove it for years without any problems. I do want to fix it in the m3 though. According to this forum post (https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...=347783&page=2) repacking grease into the Centre Support Bearing, #8 in above diagram, fixes that issue.

P.S. I did the recording driving around a big shopping centre car park after hours. The siren you hear towards the end is a joke one that was setup out the back of an Auto Parts store funnily enough. Got me the first time, was annoying the other 4 times I looped around the car park.

Your welcome. I'll let you know if the grease repacking does the trick.

Could this be the same noise?

BMW´s techs say its normal "slop" in the driveline which may cause this noise. They had another M3 in for service which sounded exactly like mine but even if it is normal i´d be happy to find a solution to make my driveline as silent as possible. Even if it meant greasing parts of my driveshaft every other season....

That part #17 is the CV at the rearmost of the driveshaft where it attaches to the differential. The center U-joint or yolk is the part that usually goes bad from what i have read, and its not serviceable.

How many miles are on the car roughly, this is kind of important

I have made a similar post regarding a weird metallic click noise however this sounds like the different "baseball bat" sound regarding the driveshaft, something he was referencing in this video:

https://youtu.be/x9QYf6AuDSU?t=414

What I'm referring to is the sound of a transmission/gear noise that sounds when you basically put the car in park occasionally it will also make the noise. I will upload a video with it

Nah, not yet. I'm planning on doing the Rod bearings in about 6 months time, and will tackle the drive shaft re-grease and a new center bearing.
Those noises, now that I know what they are, and aren't catastrophic don't bother me much at all now. -They've gotten neither better or worst.

I have the same issue and i keep hearing more often these days. The car rattles like a snake under load. When I reverse I hear metal scraping sound. It comes from the middle front which is most probably my driveshaft guibo. I wonder if I can grease it up or have to replace a part.

You should try this also, it could also be a source of the noise:

Hi simt
Did you do the grease packing in the end and did it make a difference?
