Shop for rod bearing replacement

I'm located just south of Baltimore and I'm looking for a reputable shop to do my rod bearing replacements. If any of you have personally had your bearings done in the DMV, please let me know.

I'm also willing to have it done by an individual if the reputation is legit.

I've heard TTFS is a good place to go for this job.

or RRT

I would imagine either one is gonna cost you a pretty penny.

I'll PM you a guy who is a BMW tech in your area and does this on the side. Much cheaper than any shop will charge, too.

Am I wrong when I say that the research on the rod bearing issue suggests that this problem is more susceptible to the 08-10 models?

Yes, based on the data present in the forums that would appear be incorrect or at least undetermined. Additionally, the level of wear on the bearings doesn't seem to be traceable via oil analysis on the 2011+ models due to the different materials used.

To say the prices they quote you are inflated would be understated. They probably do good work, but their quotes are an immediate turn off. I'm all about paying for quality, but they charge God prices.

as of late I've seen more 11 and ups spinning rod bearings but they also all seemd to be cars driven but those who only go to the dealer on that 14k mile interval so no surprise there.

BEBEARINGS, the manufacturer of one of the more popular bearing replacements actually states they have found more rod bearing failures with the 2010.5 and up M3s.

"Newer factory bearings (2010.5 and later) are made from tin-aluminum, not lead-copper. Tin-aluminum bearings are 4-times harder on the surface than lead-copper bearings. +1, this guy has done bearing replacements for a couple of M3 and M6 owners. I've had him work on my previous 335i as well.

I just had my bearings replaced by tuning tech fs. I would definitely recommend this shop.

I ended up getting my BE Bearings installed by a highly reputable private tech in the Gaithersburg area. I can share info if anyone is interested (PM Me).

Long story short, and I can't speak for their techs, after multiple phone conversations with the owner (Co-owner, as he so graciously pointed out to me over the phone), I wouldn't trust this place with a job that requires this level of attention to detail.

I'm sure the techs are knowledgable but that guy left me with zero confidence that the job would be done correctly. It started when I asked if there was a labor-charge difference between using OEM bolts vs ARP (considering the tightenting proceedure). He said "no, we install all bolts the same way"...
