Another member asked me yesterday if there had been a change regarding Illinois window tint laws, and today I got the new legislation. For your reading enjoyment:

625 ILCS 5/12-503

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that a person may drive a motor vehicle with a non-reflective material tinted film that does not allow less than 50% light transmittance upon the side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver. Deletes an exemption to certain window obstruction provisions for motorvehicles manufactured prior to January 1, 1982. Prohibits the use of reflective material on the front windshield and side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver for persons afflicted with or suffering from a medical illness, ailment, or disease which would require that person to be shielded from the direct rays of the sun. Provides that it is a petty offense for an installer who installs window treatment for a person with a medical condition to fail to obtain and store a copy of a doctor's certificate or letter from the person with medical condition in the installer's permanent records.

625 ILCS 5/3-412

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that a person may drive a motor vehicle with a non-reflective material tinted film that does not allow less than 50% light transmittance(Or less than 35% light transmittance if the windows to the rear of the driver already have certain window treatment applied) upon the side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver. Deletes a front windo exemption to certain persons afflicted with or suffering from a medical illness, ailment, or disease. Deletes an exemption to certain window obstruction provisions for motorvehicles manufactured prior to January 1, 1982. Provides that it is a petty offense for a first offense and a class C misdemeanor for a second offense for an installer to install window treatment on motor vehicles that do not have specified license plates or stickers. Effective immediately.

Translation: You may now tint your car in Illinois with non-reflective tint that does not allow less than a light transmittance of 50% all the way around, unless you already have the back tinted. Then it requires minimum light transmittance of not less than 35%.

All of you illegals (Tint only) just got ratified!

Got a tint ticket

So then please help me understand how I just received a ticket on my vehicle that has the lightest tint imaginable.

I'm definitely fighting the ticket, but I'm curious to know how they're handing these out like candy provided the new legislation.

BTW, the car was parked when ticketed. They mailed it to me.

Argh.

LOL, you joined this forum to rant about this. Too funny. This is the exact info. I was seeking though. Was Chicago and the surrounding cities sticking to the new legislation? Apparently not everyone received the memo. I thought by putting my tints back on come Spring would give everyone enough time to understand the new law. Guess I may end up waiting until Summer to avoid the hassle of contesting them all the time.

Sorry to hear but you'll def. need to contest this.

I have been seeing alot of people having trouble in Chicago. Follow the FB page I posted earlier in this thread. It is being addressed there.
Also, it's been recommended to have a copy of the new bill in your car so you can shows the pigs when they pull you over.

FYI, NBC 5 Chicago is having a segment about this new law and why Chicago doesn't abide by it tomorrow (5/5/10) night at 10pm.

yep... chicago thinks they are so awesome and above state law.. cops are being stupid about tinted window. used to cost 25 dollar per ticket in 2008. now is 250 dollar per ticket.. good luck with your tickets bro. I knew a couple of friends fight it in court and lost.chicago have home rules here. so no way you can win that tickets in court.
