Possible BIG problem!!!
Hi everyone, just recently I've found that when I drive over 60kph (38mph) my steering wheel begins to shake and gets worse as I go faster. I've tried to get into the shop but it looks like the 20th is the soonest. I checked to make sure my wheel lugs were torqued correctly. Any thoughts as to what it might be?

I highly doubt it is caster and here are two reasons why: 1) Alignment problems don't usually cause shaking issues, usually they cause handling issues and abnormal tire wear. 2) There is no reason for the caster to suddenly change and cause a shaking problem, unless you hit something really hard.
Go to a tire shop and have them spin all four wheels/tires on a wheel balancer. This way you will be able to tell if the tires are in need of balancing of if you have a bent rim. You don't need to go to a dealer for this...... any reputable tire shop can do it for you. One other possibility is: If you guys got snow recently then a build-up of ice and snow on your wheels can cause this problem also. |

Thanks for all the posts guys. Just to note I have not hit my car recently so I don't see how the wheel can be bent and I do not have any spacers either. I'll try to get into a wheel shop to check on the wheel balance. Hopefully that's the problem.

Shake in the wheel = front wheel balance issue
Shake in seat of pants = rear wheel balance issue Just a basic piece of advice that has served me well since I got it |

was it snowing? could be snow stuck on or around ur rotor or can be as simple as a wheel alignment or a wheel weight fell off, dont worry not that big of a deal, take it in to a independent shop locally if the wait is that long, easy fix

Update:
Went to a wheel shop and they found one of my tires forming welts or bubbles when the went to do a tire balance. They didn't really give me a good explaination as to how or why it happened most a tire defect they say. Keeping in mind I've been using these tires for about 3 winters. Well hopefully this doesn't happen to the other tires. Thanks again guys
