Melbourne Red in Plymouth, UK.

Was down near the dealer just now so went to see if they had any about and there was a Melbourne Red one just inside. It had shut at Six, sadly, but you can guess I'll be down there tomorrow morning for a proper look.

Firstly, Melbourne Red looks amazing, especially if you consider the first pic was taken with the lens against the window and into the dimly-lit showroom. Secondly, it looks more compact around the front than pictures suggest. Best of all, they had all four generations of M3 in the showroom on display, joined by an M5 and M5 Touring, which was the first I've seen.

I'll be taking my phone for some surreptitious close-ups tomorrow.

Good Job........

Yes Melbourne does look pretty good- it's BMW's first attempt at a Metallic Red and it looks like it's a winner.....

Can't say it's good for attracting unwanted attention though. It just screams for the police to pull you over!!

Glad I could share them. It is a nice dealer, but sadly it shares floor space with Minis (should be more 'proper' BMWs in there ) and is terrible for parking during opening hours.

BMW has had metallic red for years. Electric Red comes to mind. Electric Red looks good in overcast lighting as well as sunny days, but some of the pic of MR in overcast lighting haven't looked very nice.

Well, the people in the showroom were only too happy for me to take pictures, so no sneakiness.

D'oh, I forgot to upload one of the better ones.

The guy I spoke to said it should have been under wraps yesterday, glad they didn't.

Electric Red for the E90 was non-metallic. Do you have have any kind of source (brochure etc.) that says it was metallic?

Yes, just checked the original 2005 E90 brochure and Electric was non-metallic.

So again, what are you referring to?

And don't tell me something like Barrique Red as that is not what I mean.
Melbourne is BMW's first attempt at a BRIGHT red metallic.

The E36 had 27,000 miles/ 43452 km but don't know how much the E30 had. They were both very, very good condition.

Nice shoot!

The red looks great indoors. But I suspect it takes on that orange tint under the sun? Can someone who has seen one in person outside comment?

It had an orange tint in the showroom when looking at its right side. If anyone remembers that orange colour Audi did in the 90s for the A4, it has a hint of that orange in it.
