E46 is certainly the worst... It sounds like something is wrong with it.

There is no point in doing a poll on a E9X forum. You will already know the answer to the poll with all the biased opinions.

Even if you put a Ferrari F12, I bet the E9X M3 would win the poll.

E46 for interior noise. It sounds nice and mechanical from the inside. E92 for external sounds. The induction and exhaust sound uniquely sharp and aggressive. I can't comment on the prior gens considering I've never really had a chance to be in or around them.

E30 because I in general prefer the sound of old cars. Then E36. F8X is the worst.

This is on bimmerpost so all variants are represented not just the e9x crowd.

That being said e9x with any exhaust kit sounds awesome. Like this one.

Cut to 1:10

I'll just leave this here.
The e90/2 does have a nice exhaust, however.

All E46 M3's I've seen at various autocross events never sounded this good no matter the exbaust...they all tend to sound tiny and raspy.
The E30 M3, E36 M3, E92 M3 sound better than the E46 M3 from first hand experience.

I'm guessing they sound tiny because they don't have much exhaust note, but that said have you ever heard a booming low exhaust from blocks away and you eagerly anticipate what is going to come around the corner and its some sh*tty Japanese car you can't even name?
Exhaust vs. induction (motor) noise

So they gave the e90/2's a really refined well matched exhaust, probably 50-50, but with the e46 I'm guessing they damp any exhaust noise and all you are hearing is engine noise.

E46 FTW! Never have really cared for the sound of a V8 as compared to a straight-6 so there you go. The E46's straight-6 might be the best sounding 6 cylinder ever made...

I think the VR6 and S4 motors both sound great for 6cyls. The E46 sounds like it's fitted with an eBay exhaust - it just rattles.

Bimmerpost caters to the E9X crowd. E46 owners are on E46fanatics and M3forum.net. E36 owners are usually on bimmerforums. E30 owners are on r3vlimited and e30tech.

So the majority of inline 6 E9X owners will be biased and vote for the NA V8, makes sense.

this E90 vs e46 thing. lets get one thing straight here.

at least they both are high revving n/a screamers! where this new F80 is not!

with that said i have a huge love for the V8. sounds incredible. the E46 was before my time. i was young boy back in the early 2000s. i got my driver license in 2007. so the E92 will always be very special to me.

the new F80 is going to be the worse sounding M car. watch......

They'll put the Harmon kardon speakers standard for noise. Competition package will come with bang and olufson surround sound and a 10mm drop in suspension.
