Honestly I'm not sure, if gas prices stay where they are in Van we'll be taking the XC60 but I'm trying to convince myself (and the better half) it's worth the added expense because ///M lol

I wouldn't expect them to drop down so you're better off bringing the XC60. Though they're doing an investigation now or something about the prices

Red gauge face replacements by VENOXY - not the garbage EuroCustomsPR crap

Matches the red M steering wheel button perfectly, too.

Changing the evaporator is a very labor intensive bear of a job, I'm not surprised at the high estimate. My 08' requires yearly recharging, until I have to start recharging it monthly i wouldn't attempt it.

I've never heard of this potential repair... anyone care to enlighten me on what to watch out for? I'm an 09 with~107K... don't want to get Fd with a $5K bill that doesn't involve something fun.

If your ac stops blowing cold and your compressor's running most likely (unless your compressor isnt pumping or you have a blockage) your ac system has lost its r134a charge. The bandaid is a recharge which you'll see advertised at every quicklube for a reasonable price, they typically charge a low labor rate plus materials which is gas (r134a) charged by quantity, it's typically weighed in and it's probably about 1.5lbs on an e9x. The common leak points are the condenser (heat exchanger which exchanges the heat from the compressed gas which is liquid after its compressed) or the evaporator which is on the low side or the refrigeration process ( think when then liquid goes from a small hole to a large hole you get a massive pressure drop which causes the liquid to become a gas again and thus drops in temperature)

The proper repair is to fix whatever is leaking, evaporator or condenser.

The condenser is accessible and is where your radiator lives which also makes it subject to things flying at it and puncturing it, which can cause a leak.

But most likely if it's a slow leak which takes several months to bleed out, your evaporator is leaking from poor manufacturing processes or joints.

The quick fix is a simple recharge, if you can set yourself up with a recharging rig and can properly evacuate your sealed system from impurities (air) and recharge you can get some solid life out of it.

The expensive fix is pulling out your dash to replace your evaporator and trust who ever does it properly does it and evacuates and recharges your system after.

$5k is steep but most likely the tech who bid it doesn't want to do the job so figures if he doesn't go ahead, I don't have to do it and if he does great I get paid... I know a dealership bid this but still.. he doesn't want to do it.
