M 335d
Just ran into a guy who had the M logo all over his 335d. Told me how it was the same suspension and interior as the M3. Told me he could beat me in a race too. Thought it was quite hilarious.

i wouldnt doubt a 335d with a tune would eat a stock m3, maybe even a stock 335d, 425flb of torque is huge compared to a stock m3,

335i/335d with tune can easily eat heavily modded NA M3, this is no doubt. But what it means same interior and suspension? The interior is supposed to be almost identical... I respect 335i as I owned before but some of the 335i owners are m3 haters just because they are jealous. M badge adds 30HP

ps: torque means it can pull stuff (including itself). hp means how fast it can pull stuff (including itself). sure a lot of torque gives advantage to average HP under the curve, but M3 has virtually flat torque curve with aggressive gearing which keeps it in the power band.

depends if he was talking about on a track or in a straight line...the suspension and DCT alone is a huge asset on the track if you aren't a pro driver.

I had a clown tell me his stock 135i could take my M3...on the HIGHWAY!
morons... Also, I had a 335d for a loaner when my car was getting service done, and while it was torquier than the M3, it definitely died down shortly after the peak torque rpm. Felt mad slow after that...

Hi Everyone
OK here is a thread I have to comment on. 1. Don't run down the 335d until you have at least had one for a day or two, or better a year or two. I had mine for 18 months. It was wonderful, really something. Drove it at the track 5 or 6 times went really well. 2. A 335d is on the motorway for all reasonable purposes as fast as an M3, I know this because I good friend currently owns one, and we've tried it. The m3 is a wee bit quicker, but get it slightly wrong and nup. For those with a love of stats ref the 80-120 km/h numbers the 335d is in fact quicker. 3. The seats are different along with a whole lot of details (as we know), and the stereo much better (in NZ spec anyhow) 4. The handling is similar, but for me the M3 is better because as we all know it has m3 specific suspension, you just have to look underneath. 5. I went to the M3 for the LSD, Manual and sharp turn in that I wanted. And the bonnet looks cool plus I am a petrol head in a suit, M3 = perfect. 6. Yes my one was a M-Spec one which had an M logo on the boot from BMW NZ M style seats, steering wheel etc M sport suspension which means it sits a little lower (NOT to be confused with an M3!). (just like an S-Line Audi thats how they sell them here, so dont bother with the whole M car rant) Summary, unless your a nut buy a 335d, and it would make a perfect car for my wife/family if I didn't need a big 7 seater. cheers stu Last edited by kiwistu; 02-08-2012 at 10:32 PM.. |

Hi David
Perfect garage I reckon, 335d + an M3! And I thought I was qualified to comment :-) As per my post, the 335d isn't faster than an M3 in general, however I did find this stat: 4.0 sec verses 4.4 for 80-120, and I am sure you'd agree the 335d is outrageous when it comes to passing...my impression any how. Cheers stu http://www.driving.ca/modern+diesel+...604/story.html http://www.7machine.com/bmw/4861.html |
