Misfire on all cylinders and stall after 1 min of starting. HELP!
Just finished putting the car together. Replaced bank 1 head with a new one. Car cranks and fires up but stalls. Will idle after giving it gas when starting for about 1 min and then it'll buck and make popping sounds like backfire and stall. Codes show misfire on all 8 cylinders. Also, have EVAP codes and TDC definition not found code. Also show throttle actuator 12% on bank 2 and 280% on bank 1 code. Compression on that bank reads 1-155 2-160 3-155 4-155
Anyone have any idea? Would really appreciate any help on trying to further pinpointing the issue to get car back up and running. Thanks guys. |

I would first check battery voltage and the charging system/alternator.
It's suspect that it's faulting for both actuators. Then clear all of the codes, and post what comes back.

Had the battery on jump. Also, cleared codes a few times and each time results in same codes. What should I check? Thanks

Hoping both of us gets this figured out. Between the two posts (different symptoms) I?m sure we will get more helpful ideas and more importantly help others that later incur these symptoms.

1. make sure your Crankshaft Position Sensor is plugged in and undamaged. Not getting a crank position signal will cause alot of your symptoms.
2. Make sure you connected all of the vacuum lines to the intake plenum. 3. I think it's worth pulling the plenum and making sure the throttle actuator mechanics aren't binding on a wire or clamp etc. Could explain why the one actuator is reading WOT at idle. Check these things and report back.

Worked on the car again today. Double check plenum and connection and lines to it. It's all good. The actuator does work when tested with the ignition on and pedal being pressed. They looked even. Crankshaft Position Sensor is plugged in.
Car fires right up but need some gas to get it to idle. When idling, it is in limp mode but the idle is solid. Not hunting. Codes today were: EVAP Misfire on all cylinders TDC definition not found Running out of ideas =( Any help is appreciated. Thanks |

followed the manual using the timing tool. everything lined up without issues except the bank 1 (cyl 1-4) had some tension to get tool to sit flush. Needed to use wrench to turn camshafts slightly to get the tool to sit flush. Is that normal? We figured it's because that side is compressed.

Double tap the engine chassis ground and the DME ground. The Chassis ground is on the drivers side of the oil pan to the chassis. The DME ground is next too the windshield washer cap. Also double tap and make sure the grounds on each valve cover are clean and tight. Stupid crap like that can cause all kinds of issues. Also, using a scan tool, get the car started and idling, then run a Vanos bleed procedure to ensure you don't have an air pocket stuck in a vanos unit. Happened to me on an S85 once. Car wouldn't idle for shit.

ISTA requires an ICOM A box to communicate with the car.
