Lightbulb Next Gen F30/F32 M3 Lineup Selected. M3 Gran Coupe, M3 Touring, X3M and X4M Coming

The next M3 family has been selected - The name M3 remains despite some unconfirmed changes being reported in the media.

BMW X3M - 2013
High Performance SAV for the Premium Entry Segment.
Groundbreaking debut for new M developed engine which will spread across other models.

The M3 Coupe - 2014
High Performance Luxury Coupe in it's fifth generation.

Plans are also in motion for a series of editions of M3 to capitalize in on (future?) Motorsport success in a similar fashion to the Porsche 911 - GT3/GT2. Expect them to focus on Competition , Motorsport and Lightweight with varying Performance.

The M3 Cabrio - 2015
Retaining a folding hard-top for exclusivity , The current E92 has been successful in emerging markets were blue skies reign, in some aspect outselling or equalling Coupe sales in some markets.

The M3 Gran Coupe - 2016
BMW are not overwhelmed with sales reaction to the current car. But recognize that there is interest for a future variant , however a Gran Coupe essentually a four door variant of the forthcoming F32 Coupe will replace the sedan with a more stylish and performance orientated four door Coupe shape.

The BMW X4M - 2015
High Performance entry segment of downsized "Sport Activity Coupe" concept

The M3 Touring - 2015
For the first time BMW M will hopefully commit to an M3 Touring , largely based on demand from European customers who had to forfeit for the larger M5 Touring when wanting a high performance Wagon from BMW M. Demand for the updated C63 AMG is also influential as will the imminent Audi RS4 Avant.

* There will be no M variant of the 3er Gran Turismo.

Are these model years or release years? thought the X3M was supposed to be released in late 2012, so 2013 model?

That is going to be a LONG time for me to wait for a M3 sedan form, even if its 2015 as a 2016 model, thats 4.5 years away (5.5 if its 2016 release year), wasn't planning on keeping my C63 that long but don't want to get anything inbetween either.

thinking I might buy the X3M for my wife, then when the X4 comes out (maybe a diesel), trade in my C63 for that, let my wife drive it (she loves the X6 but wants something smaller) and I will just drive the X3M till the M3 Gran Coupe comes out...

I like all that I am hearing, except that Gran coupe (4D) will likely be the same price as M3 coupe, no longer affording the discount that the sedan once offered

These are calendar years. So the date reflects what will read on the calendar when the product listed next to it is to debut.

Though it will debut in 2014, the US probably won't get the M3 coupe until 2015 either. So the 4-door GC could realistically follow by just a year or so. A bummer, but not as bad as it looks.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Fixed.

Granted, I am speculating, but look at how cars like the CLS and A7 are being positioned. BMW's own 6 Series Gran Coupe will probably be priced similarly, relatively speaking, and I think it is best to expect the 3 Series Gran Coupe, and thus the M3 Gran Coupe, will follow suit as well.

M's are still going to be rare to see, its not like they are marking them up $2,000 and saying its an M. these will all have $10K+ premiums to the non M version and most peole buying cars like the X3 will not step up to the M. Think about AMG, at least in my area I don't see many AMGs on the road even though they offer every car as an AMG.

If you owned a company and someone was willing to pay you $10K more for something that would cost you maybe $6K more, would you tell them no, or offer it to them? Its a business, now that "M" is highly recognized, they are capitalizing on it, good for share holders!

If someone at BMW can commit to an M3 Touring being available in the U.S., with a 6-speed manual, in 2015, I'll seriously put money down. Today.
