Hi there,

I have a 2nd set of 19" Oem wheels that I am planning to run with winter tires...

I found a good deal of "Blizzak LM-25 265/35R19" tires for my rear wheels on your website.

What I can get for the fronts???

Can I install 265/35R19 to all wheels? What is the cons/pons if I do that?

Thanks..

I do have a silly question. I will have my OEM 18" wheels to use as winter wheels if necessary, but I prefer not to use them. Are there any options where I can throw on some cheap steelies (that will still fit over the OEM brakes)? I used to do this with my prior cars + Blizzaks and they were great. I wouldn't have to worry too much cosmetically.

You'll definitely have an easier time switching back and forth if you mount your winters to a second set of wheels. With that in mind, yeah, I would go with something other than a second set of 359M both because you may have more options for tires (if you go with 18") and because the wheels are going to less expensive (check the buy/sell forum, or pick up a non-oem winter setup from tire rack).

Yes, that's the correct sizing of the stock, OEM tires.

Personally, I would run a wider tire (as fas as summer tires go) on the 359M since they are a wider wheel than the 220M, but that's a topic for another thread.

I Have a 2011 M3 Coupe - I would like to get "snow tires" for fall/winter..

I DO want to use VOLK TE37 18" (I have the 19" Competition package OEM on the car right now) or something similar

but what tire setup should I use? Staggered or Straight?

I'd also like to use Bridgestone Blizzak tires, everyone has been suggesting these for the PA roads.. but if there is better suggestions I'd like to hear them..

any help is welcome and thanked

-Christina

Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds are what I will be mounting on OEM 18s, which are my dedicated winter wheels.

Why do you have to run a staggered setup for winter wheels? Whats the absolute cheapest winter wheel set for my 11 e93 m3.

You don't. BMW actually recommends that you don't but there's not real reason you can't. It's a preference really.

Ditto that, you don't need staggered.

I prefer to maintain the OEM look in the winter so that is why I go with OEM 18s.

Agree with the guys above - you don't, and in fact BMW recommends a non-staggered setup.

Check Tire Rack. They can hook you up with a complete winter wheel/tire package for somewhat under $2k if I recall correctly.

My setup from tire rack was only about $1300 and that included shipping to Germany.

Thanks, and glad I dont need staggered. $1300 is kinda expensive for a set of winters that ill only be using a few times if that. I was hoping to find something much cheaper then that. Tirerack seems to only have a few choices for the m3, whereas for the 335 I had plenty of cheap winter options.

Thinking of getting all seasons, not going in the snow, and saving the summers for the lease turn in? The all seasons would mainly help out with the low temperatures, and id just avoid the few snow days we get here.

edit: I think the cheapest solution is a set of m6/m5 reps in 18s, then get a set of winters put on them?

Just FYI, I did just get recent prices from my dealership about their winter packages.

They offer the Michellin Pilot Alpin PA3's on Double Spoke 270M rims with the TPMS for 1865 euro (excluding VAT if you have the form). Estimated about $2.4k with today's exchange rate. A little too pricey for me... Plus, I won't be driving it much during winter, since my other car has winter tires and I will be shipping my BMW back to the states early so it can meet me there.

In all honesty, I think a set from Tirerack is the way to go, unless you are looking for something very specific or OEM. I may be going OEM if I can find the rims and save the money, but it probably won't be until next winter. If I do go with a winter set, it will probably be from Tirerack so I can save some cash

That's including wheels and almost $400 in shipping costs. If you want tires only it will be significantly cheaper.

another fitment question for Tirerack crew

Hi,

I have a set of Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds from my 2002 911 Turbo in sizes 225/40x18 Front and 265/35x18 Rears. Can I use the 3Ds on my 2009 M3 sedan? I have 18" aftermarket rims 8.5" Front and 9.5" wide rear.

I know stock size for the M3 is 245/40x18 and 265/40x18 so the rear aspect ratio is 35 instead of 40. Will that make a difference in performance in the wet and dry? How about if I use the 265/35x18 tires that I have in the rear and get 2 - 245/40x18 or 235/40x18 3Ds for the front? The 225s seem kind of narrow.

Or do I go with 235/40x18 all around as BMW recommends?

Thanks!
Paul

Any updates from guys who used the staggered set-ups on 18's last winter?
About to pull the trigger on 235/255 Dunlop Wintersports 3D on VMR VB-3's. I'm waffling between this and the 235 square set-up. Anyone had both?

BMW Recommended winter setup is 235/40R18 with 18x8 wheels all around. This will fit, although it does not fill the fender well in the rear. The narrower tires are better in snow and ice.

The best winter wheel is the Sport Edition A7

They have a silver painted and clearcoat finish, and are a direct fit with no spacer. They will even use the original bolts. I have used this style for 3 winters. They will not win any car show trophies, but they have held up well, and they look fine on a BMW .

18x8 is $129. 18x9 is $134 for those who want to keep the staggered setup.

If you want a staggered setup, use 255/40R18 for the Rear. The only snow tire in 265/40 is a Pirelli that will not be here until late October/early November. A little narrower will help in snow anyway. Front can be 245 or 235/40R18.

Tires are pretty much all good. Most popular are the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25's and Dunlop Wintersport 3D's. The new Pilot Alpin PA3's look very good as well. The Pirellis and Continentals are the sportiest handling, but the least focused on snow, more of a cold-weather performance tire, but still much better than all-season tires in snow.

An example cost for a package would be around $1400 with non-staggered Blizzak LM-25's delivered. Add $200 to any package to have BMW original Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors (TPMS) installed. That will prevent the annoying "low tire pressure" light from coming on. (Unless you really have a flat)

The website does not show the wheels yet, but I am always in the office Monday-Friday 10AM-6PM Eastern. 800.428.8355 x660
Our website should have most of this info up soon.

I run a staggered set and we got a shit ton of snow and ice last year and I didn't have any issues.
