I really don't get all the negative comments. This guy wanted to build a car to race in NASA (in which there are already tons of 911s) and this is a very nice build by one of the best BMW shops in the country. Its his money so no one needs to debate the better options. I myself wouldn't do this to my ///M but its cool to see something different, its cool to see the possibilities out there. I myself would like to see the kind of lap times this car could put down compared to a stock e92M

Perhaps your not jealous of the mods, weather you think they are major or minor, within your financial grasp or not, but jealous of the attention this car is getting over you and your car.

Otherwise your response might have been "nice" or something positive.

Just thinking outside of the box, enough M3 owner psychology for tonight...
^A good response, maybe some of you could be a little more open to something different rather than railing on the owner/idea b/c its not the route you'd go with your car. Not every M3 owner has to throw a set of heavy ass 20" wheels on their car.

Slightly defensive???

Believe me my car will never see a set of 20" wheels....

Now how fun would life be if we all had the same opinion on everything? The forum is nothing more than a collection of opinions, so why are you so upset that some of us aren't impressed by putting a roll cage in a M3? In fact the last quote you posted the member not only got upset that I didn't get excited, but they had to turn their response into a personal attack, instead of keeping it about the car....

We discussed the weight issue a little bit in another thread related to this build. It should be possible to remove 500lb+ of stuff, and the cage probably weighs ~150lb, so there will be a significant weight reduction. My guess it that it probably weighs close to 3100lb...

If Turner can't put a proper cage into a street car, and do a track build, then I don't know who can, so I don't get the "cage is make belief" comment at all. Who really wants to be pushing an uncaged 400hp car on the track? And, what's "ridiculous" about the window net? It's required safety equipment in most racing series, and this person seems to be planning to race this car. Even if he doesn't, it can't hurt to be safe. What's next? People will say the harnesses and seats look funny?

wow.

What's make believe about this?

Judging by the time spent on constructing the cage, the rest of the mods would be serious too. The window net is for safety, so is the center net that goes from the center of the dash to the center of the car. And look carefully at the build page of the car, there are lost of trick components there... past blackout grilles.

What's so funny about this car being turned into a track car? It's not like we're talking about a Geo Metro.

Maybe all you guys that are talking down on this car should take some time and do some DE's and realize just how much talent and time has to go into one of these cars.

So not only are you stripping what you paid good money for, but you're spending money on making additions to make it track ready.

To top it off, one can search the used market and find bargains for a 997 GT3, and with some balls you can get the RS version (by balls I mean more money).

For what it is though...Awesome! Simply Awesome!
I see what you are saying about the GT3, but a stock GT3 is not race ready either. You'd have to put a full cage in it, strip it (even a GT3 can be stripped further), and install the other safety equipment. And this guy probably picked up a used 08 M3 for a little under $50k (or at least that is probably what the car was worth before the conversion). A used 997 GT3 will run you more like $80k I think.

Very nice....but its classed GTS3??? I find that odd since NASA GTS3 is for german touring sedans with power to weight of at best 12.0 with DOT tires....so assuming it puts down only 360whp it would have to weigh 4350lbs with driver to qualify?? Seems very odd to me since my race 928 puts down 302whp with a race weight of around 3150 for 10.43 or GTS4 (higher number is faster)

Something isn't right? It should be a GTS5 (top) class car....

This is the third time this question has been asked. What kind of exhaust is that?

Do you guys realize a clean 997 GT3 costs about $40,000 more than what you can get a clean M3 for? And more like $70,000 more for a GT3 RS.
