max camber -1.6?

I am a bit puzzled. I had Dinan springs and camber plates installed and was hoping to get -2.0 to -2.4 in the front and -1.8 to -2.0 in the rear.

The shop told me the max they could get was -1.6 front and rear. This seems inconsistent with so many others.

My car is a 2012 E92 M3 ZCP. I would appreciate any feedback.

It's possible but not normal. You should be able to get 1.6 with pins pulled and stock springs. With the Dinan camber plates installed you should be getting at least -2 degrees.

ZCP doesn't matter once you change the springs (only suspension geometry difference between regular and ZCP suspension)

You can probably further slot the slotted holes for more inward (negative) range.

Hmm. I have 1.8 stock with the pins pulled. Definitely should get more with Dinan.

Dinan plates yes, but Dinan springs are barely lower than ZCP.

Definitely not normal. I got -1.6 front stock with pins pulled and stock non-zcp springs. The stock setup can get over -2.0 rear (or at least mine did). Just the springs without the plates should get you over 1.6 front. I'd go to a different shop.

Springs don't influence camber in the front. But with M3 suspension arms and Dinan camber plates I have -2 degrees. So -1.6 is definitely not right.

In the old days, lowering springs increased negative camber slightly and moved the toe out slightly. Has the front suspension design changed so this is no longer the case?

No, you are right

ZCP is lower than non ZCP and based on anecdotes from the forum generally can get ~.3 more negative camber than non ZCP at stock height. The only difference in geometry= ride height

Mine did -1.6 in the front, ZCP cars are generally able to get -1.9 or -2.0

The shop did another alignment and the settings are now

-2.1 front
0 toe

-1.8 rear

Thanks for all of your feedback!

You should be able to obtain at least -1.8 on the front with the Dinan Plates. It is possible to get -2.0 on the stock setup.

Only -1.6* in the rear is incorrect. The car can go down to -2.4 to -2.6 degrees negative in the rear without an issue.

What do you want in the rear for handling? On the E36M3 with which I am more familiar, the goal is about 1 degree less negative in the rear relative to the front. Is the ideal gap less in the E9xM3 for certain reasons? Or are people trying to minimize tire wear?

Yes they do. Lowering the car by any means influences camber, both front and rear. Lowering the car increases negative camber and increases toe out in front. Raising it does the opposite obviously.

I respectfully disagree. You're right for the rear, but the front suspension design is different. My car is very low with the Bilstein PSS10 suspension but the only camber I have in the front is due to the M3 control arms and the camber plates. Camber stayed 0 when it was lowered only.

I was thinking the same. I'm getting mine aligned tomorrow. I'm gonna go as much neg camber I can get in the front with pins pulled on stock suspension.

Getting mine done at the dealer, they use sand bags to put weight on the car when doing alignments. Problem aligning the car without adding weight is that as soon as you sit on the car the balance wont be the same and the alignment is gonna be a bit off. I know some of you guys hate the dealers but for alignments its either that or ask your indy shop if you can sit in the car while they align it. It's like installing a set of coilovers and not corner balancing the car, what's the advantage?

I have seen the official instructions for aligning, but why align the car for 500 lbs or whatever if you normally drive with just 200 lbs in it? And why can't alignment specs be produced for an empty car -- for example, if you did the weight method and the took the weight out and took new alignment measurements?

A good alignment shop also uses weights, so no need to rely on the dealer...

Play sand is maybe $5 per bag at lowes or home depot. Return it when you are done. You will get a good workout.
