That's not what you said. You said "similar performance numbers". When actually they aren't.
What about my other question? You're getting an optioned S5 for $55k?

DAMN.... You guys have it good in the States

it sickn's me to think that I could have bought a M3 with how much we pay for 335's up here.

Oh well, I'm sure people in Europe + Asia (pretty much rest of the world) pay more than Canadians

At least someone admits they were never seriously interested in the M.

Seriously, most of the options on this thing are "must haves" if you ask me, and getting them is going to put me in the 65-70K range. The option prices are going to be the deal breaker for me.

S5 is starting to make a lot more sense. Better bang for the buck.
can't please everyone. sounds like your mind is made up, the S5 is a nice car, but not the driving performer the M3 is, or even the 335i is (which is even less $ since bang for the buck is a criteria), not a slam, just a matter of what one wants in a car.

in all seriousness, did you really expect the base price for the coupe to be anywhere close to $50K.

E90/92 M3's prices will have the opposite effect to many shoppers looking at RS4's and S5's, I think the very reasonable base price (especially the sedan) will put a dent Audi S5 sales.

He's right according to audiusa.com. S5 with leather sport seats (standard), pearl paint, carbon-look interior trim, nav & B&O sound is $54,715. A pretty good value, I'd say. Not as good a driver's car or as quick, but for most people a nice ride.

Glad to see I nailed the price from long ago (using the % increase model from E36 to E46).

The fact you can get the sedan for <$55K is making me VERY happy I did not pay $4600 for an LSD for my 335i.

I think the M3 sedan will be in my garage instead

Great news.

BMW waited until just after Lexus announced the IS-F pricing and then totally went for the jugular! I am suprised how low the price is, I think $59k for the coupe and $57 for the sedan would have still out sold Lexus. My prediction from the begining was $58.5k then during a lull, and when all the mags were predicting so high I changed my tune and believed they could and would get over $60k. Then with the hints of Military pricing I moved back to <$60k again.

Congrats to all those who voted $56-$58k in my poll long ago (can't recall if I voted for this or one notch higher at $58-60k)!

JEllis: Time to ... on our bet. I want to see your car with the ricer stickers all over it, soon!

A good debate again for modded 335i vs. M3

Don't all of you "M3 base price is $60,000" guys feel foolish now?
